General information

Riverside Medical Center became an approved Illinois Department of Public Health, Division EMS and Highway Safety Resource Hospital in October 1989. Today, Riverside EMS System provides medical direction to fifteen ambulance services and one Associate Hospital in the greater Kankakee area. Providers include: Beaver Township Fire Protection District BLS Ambulance Assist Braceville Fire Department BLS Transport Braidwood Fire Department ALS Transport Crescent- Iroquois Ambulance Service BLS Transport Essex Fire Protection District ILS Transport Gardner Fire Department ALS Transport / Amb. Assist Iroquois Memorial Hospital Ambulance ALS Transport Martinton Fire Protection District BLS Transport Martins Ambulance Service ALS and BLS Transport Papineau Township Fire Protection District BLS Ambulance Assist Reddick Fire Protection District ILS Transport Riverside Ambulance ALS Transport Sheldon Community EMS BLS Ambulance Assist South Wilmington Fire Department BLS Transport Woodland Fire Protection District BLS Ambulance Assist Iroquois Memorial Hospital Associate Hospital Riverside EMS System conducts annual EMS courses including First Responder, Emergency Medical Dispatcher, EMT-Basic, EMT-Intermediate, EMT-Paramedic, Prehospital RN, Emergency Communication Nurse, Prehospital Trauma Life Support (PHTLS), EMS Instructor, Farmedic and all types of continuing education classes. Riverside Trauma Service provides courses including Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) and Pediatric Advance Life Support (PALS). All Paramedics in the Riverside EMS System are required to complete and maintain ACLS, PALS and PHTLS. All Intermediates and Basics are required to complete and maintain PHTLS. Riverside EMS System is a participating member of the Illinois EMS Region VII which includes, Riverside Medical Center, Kankakee, Silver Cross Hospital, Joliet, Ingalls Hospital, Harvey, Advocate Christ Hospital, Oaklawn and Provena St. Mary’s Hospital, Kankakee. Riverside EMS participates in the Region SMO Committee, Region Advisory Committee, Region Education Committee, Region QA Committee, and the Region Disaster Committee. Riverside EMS System reports directly to the Vice President of Patient Care Services and the EMS Medical Director. Currently, Kevin Hack, EMT-P, BAS is the EMS System Coordinator / Ambulance Director, and Steven Decker, DO is the EMS System Medical Director.

Warmer Weather is Here

May is just a week away. On May 1, Riverside EMS is conducting a one day PALS Recertification Coarse from 9 am to 2:30 pm located in the Johnson Lecture Hall at Riverside Medical Center. On May 25, we are conducting a one day ACLS provider course again in the Johnson Lecture Hall. EMS week cookout will be on May 23, 24 and 25 from 11 am to 1 pm. Come on out for a burger or dog.
