Tornado Watch vs. Tornado Warning – Know the Difference 🌪️

Many residents heard the outdoor warning sirens this afternoon and are wondering what prompted them.

A Tornado Watch means conditions are favorable for tornadoes to develop. Stay alert, monitor weather conditions, and be prepared to take action if conditions worsen.

A Tornado Warning means a tornado has been sighted or indicated by radar. Take shelter immediately.

Currently, Isanti County is under a Tornado Warning. Rotation was reported near Ogilvie, which prompted the activation of warning sirens. The storm is moving southeast at approximately 35 mph. ***Expires @ 4:45pm***

⛈️ Be weather prepared:
• Monitor local weather updates and warnings.
• Have multiple ways to receive emergency alerts.
• Review your shelter plan now.
• Move to a basement or the lowest level of a sturdy building if a warning is issued for your location.
• Stay away from windows and exterior walls.

Remember: A Watch means be prepared. A Warning means take action.

The Braham Police Department would like to remind residents that City Offices will be closed todayn Friday, June 19, in observance of Juneteenth.

While administrative offices will be closed, officers will remain on duty and available to respond to emergencies and calls for service as usual.

For emergencies, always dial 911. For non-emergency assistance, contact Isanti County Dispatch at (763)689-2141

We wish everyone a safe and meaningful Juneteenth holiday.

City Offices will be closed on Friday, June 19, in observance of Juneteenth, a day that commemorates the end of slavery in the United States and celebrates freedom, resilience, and progress.

Regular business hours will resume on Monday, June 22.

🚓🚒 Today we had the pleasure of welcoming the BASK Summer Program to the Braham Police Department and Braham Fire Rescue!

The group spent the afternoon learning about a variety of important safety topics, and of course, getting a hands on look at our emergency vehicles.

Thank you to the BASK Summer Program for spending part of your day with us. We hope everyone had fun, learned something new, and enjoyed their behind the scenes look at public safety in Braham! 🚔🔥

🚨 Scam Alert Targeting Seniors in Our Community 🚨

The Braham Police Department has become aware of a scam targeting older adults that has recently surfaced in our community.

Scammers are calling victims and claiming that their bank account has been hacked or compromised. The caller then instructs the victim to withdraw large amounts of cash and ship the money overnight to a specific address.

To avoid detection, victims are told to lie to shipping center employees, claiming the package contains items such as historic books, collectibles, or gifts for a family member. Once the package is in transit, the scammer may contact the shipping carrier and attempt to change the delivery address so the money is redirected to them.

⚠️ Remember:
👉Banks, law enforcement agencies, and government organizations will never ask you to withdraw cash and mail it to protect your money.
❓Be suspicious of anyone who tells you to keep a transaction secret or lie about the contents of a package.
🛑Never send cash through the mail to someone you do not personally know and trust.
If you receive a call like this, hang up and contact your bank directly using a trusted phone number.

Please take a moment to check in with elderly family members, friends, and neighbors. A quick conversation could prevent someone from becoming the next victim.

If you believe you have been contacted by a scammer or may have been victimized, contact the Braham Police Department immediately.

We know severe weather has been a hot topic lately, and you've probably heard the forecasts. Rather than focusing on the forecast itself, we wanted to share a few important safety reminders for everyone in the City of Braham and throughout Isanti County.

When thunderstorms approach:
✅ Move indoors immediately if you hear thunder.
✅ Stay away from windows during severe storms.
✅ Secure or bring inside outdoor furniture and decorations that could become airborne.
✅ Charge your phone and keep flashlights readily available.

If a Tornado Warning is issued:
✅ Go to the lowest level of a sturdy building.
✅ Put as many walls between you and the outside as possible.
✅ Avoid windows and large open rooms.
✅ Mobile homes and vehicles are not safe shelters.

Have multiple ways to receive warnings.
Outdoor warning sirens are intended to alert people who are outside and may not be heard indoors. Weather radios, smartphone alerts, local media, and weather apps are all excellent tools.

If you're driving:
✅ Slow down during heavy rain.
✅ Never drive through flooded roadways.
✅ If visibility becomes poor, safely pull over and wait for conditions to improve.

A few minutes of preparation today can make a big difference when severe weather strikes. Stay safe, Braham!

🚧 PHASE 1 PROJECT UPDATE 🚧

It appears paving will continue tomorrow (6/10) morning as part of the City of Braham Phase 1 Project.

Please remember that NO PARKING is permitted on project streets while paving operations are underway. Streets affected by the parking restrictions will be clearly marked with No Parking signage. Please move vehicles from posted streets to help crews safely and efficiently complete the work.

We appreciate everyone's patience and flexibility as we work to complete these important improvements. The paving process should take only a few days, and roads will reopen as they become drivable.
