⏳️Project Updates City of Braidwood.

This post is for information only.

The City of Braidwood continues to move forward on a number of important infrastructure, transportation, water, drainage and community improvements projects. The City Council has committed to keeping residents informed as project progress from design and to planning to construction.

Town Center Park – Design is wrapping up, with Quality Control scheduled to begin next week. The project is anticipated to go out to bid on September 14, with award at the October 13th city council meeting.

Dog Park – Supplemental topographic survey work was completed this week, and design is continuing. The project is targeting a bid timeframe similar to the Town Center Park project.

2027 Street Resurfacing Projects – Five streets have been repaved, and the contractor is currently completing minor restoration work in various landscaped areas.

Eureka Water Main Design – Design is being finalized for QC review. The permit application has been submitted to the IEPA, and the City is expecting to receive the permit in mid-to-late October. The project will be advertised for bids from September 23 through October 8, with bid opening and award scheduled for the October 13 City Council meeting. Construction is expected to begin in March 2027 and continue through June 1, 2027. Construction was deferred until next year in anticipation of receiving more competitive bids at the start of the construction season.

Mitchell Drainage – Topographic survey work is underway, and final design is expected to be completed by mid-September. The City plans to solicit proposals in October and hopes to begin construction by late October.

I&I Investigation – This project is analyzing how much rainwater is infiltrating the sewer system. Once the extent is determined, the City can make targeted repairs to reduce excess treatment costs. Phase 1 has been completed, and the engineers are currently analyzing the data.

Generator Replacement –(for the water sewer plant) Pads and fuel tanks have been installed, and most electrical conduit is in place. Wiring and electrical work are underway. The City is waiting for the concrete pads to cure before setting the generators and completing wiring. Generator installation is scheduled for September 2, with remaining wiring, fueling, and testing to follow. Completion is anticipated by the end of September, and the project is currently ahead of schedule.

585 Main Street Home Demolition – The City is out for bid on demolition of the vacant and deteriorated home at 585 Main Street, which was acquired through the abandonment process. Bids are scheduled to be awarded at the September 9 City Council meeting.

Main Street Sign Upgrades – The City will begin installing the new decorative street signs on Main Street this month. All necessary permits have been received from IDOT.

D’Orazio I-55 & Coal City Road Landscaping – The City will be receiving quotes for the Coal City Road and I-55 interchange cleanup project. This project will create a more aesthetically pleasing entrance to Braidwood and improve sight lines to the new car dealerships. The contract is scheduled for award at the October 13 City Council meeting.

Bike Path Master Plan – Draft route concepts are being finalized for presentation to the City, along with the general report format. The plan is scheduled to be presented to the Planning Commission in October.

Mitchell Pond Pier Replacement – The City will be repairing the piers at the Mitchell Street pond. Staff is currently coordinating with a contractor to determine the scope of work and secure a bid.

Wastewater Treatment Plant Flow Improvements – Robinson Engineering is in the design phase of addressing effluent flow issues at the treatment plant. A bottleneck currently limits the efficiency of wastewater flow through the treatment process.
