After 14 years with the Braidwood Police Department, School Resource Officer Vern Reed is officially ready to enjoy his much deserved retirement. SRO Reed joined the Braidwood Police Department on June 18, 2012 as a part-time patrol officer and eventually transitioned into his role as an SRO at the Reed Custer High School. SRO Reed was recognized during the August 25, 2026 meeting of the Braidwood City Council.

Thank you SRO Reed for your years of dedicated service to the Braidwood community and for the impacts you have made on the lives of students who have made their way through the halls of Reed Custer High School. We wish you the best in retirement and hope that you get to enjoy it to its fullest.

Congratulations to Officers Christopher Wolfe and Brandon Norred on their graduation yesterday from the Basic Law Enforcement Training Academy at the University of Illinois' Police Training Institute. Officers Wolfe and Norred now begin their Field Training Program with us right here in the community. We are excited to have them as part of our BPD team.

The Braidwood Police Department is seeking qualified applicants to establish a Lateral Hire List for the position of Full-Time Police Officer. Applicants hired from the Lateral Police Officer Hire List will be assigned to the Patrol Division and eligible for collateral assignments based on performance and qualification.
