City of Braidwood Switching to New Emergency & Community Notification System
Starting July 1, 2026, the City of Braidwood, along with many other communities within Will County, will be switching to Smart911 for emergency alert notifications and community non-emergency communications.
After July 1st, the current Everbridge system will no longer be used. Users who had enrolled in the current Everbridge system will be sent alerts notifying them of this change and encouraging them to make the switch. Registration from Everbridge will NOT automatically be transferred over to Smart911.
Registration for Smart911 is now open.
Smart911 is a free service being utilized by Will County and many of the municipalities within it. Smart911 has the option for users to fill out additional information like emergency contacts, preferred providers, medical conditions, and pets that will be sent to first responders if the registered phone number calls 911. This will save time when responders arrive. This information is not required to use Smart911. Users can add as much or as little information as they wish.
Like the current Everbridge system, Smart911 will send out alerts regarding emergency water shutoffs, boil orders, road closures, holiday trash reminders, and other emergency situations or community based notifications. The Smart911 app can also provide notifications for severe weather.
There are a few ways to sign up for the new Smart911 system:
- Visit https://willcounty911.gov/smart-911/ , click on the "sign up for Smart911" icon, and select notifications from the City of Braidwood.
- Scan the QR code which can be found on our Community Notification System info flyers or pocket cards.
- Download the free Smart911 App from the Google Play Store or Apple App Store.
- Those who do not have access to a computer or smartphone may fill out a Smart911 registration assistance request form at Braidwood City Hall. A member of Braidwood E.S.D.A. will reach out directly to schedule a time to complete registration.
