This is a huge loss to our community. Our prayers go out to Steve.

It is with great sadness that we share the passing of our dear friend and colleague, longtime Brainerd Dispatch photographer Steve Kohls, who passed away Monday, Nov. 10, in Duluth following an illness.

Steve was part of the Dispatch family for more than 50 years. He preserved the spirit of our community, its people, its places, and the moments that defined generations. His talent, kindness, and dedication touched countless lives through the lens of his camera.

A special tribute to Steve will appear in the Saturday, Nov. 15, edition of the Brainerd Dispatch.

As we grieve the loss of someone who meant so much to us and our community, our hearts are with his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him.

"No Parking During Daylight Hours" signs have been placed on the streets highlighted in red. Why, you may ask? These are the selected streets for chip sealing for 2025.

Chip sealing will take place on Thursday and/or Friday (July 17-18) dependent on weather on the red streets below AND Evergreen Ave (N 10th st to 1st Ave NE) as well as Bluff Ave (Terrace to Evergreen).

Please, be aware that chip sealing is taking place and we are asking that residents and visitors refrain from parking on the highlighted streets so that our contractor can complete the work.

**Your car may be towed if you do not comply**

When I was elected, the youth softball fields at Buffalo Hills Park did not have scoreboards. In 2019 the City erected two new scoreboards to bring the softball facilities up to par with the existing baseball facilities.

Previously trail maintenance happened (or didn't) as funding was (or wasn't) available. I've spent a lot of time working with city staff on a Capital Improvement Plan, so that routine maintenance and expenditures are something we plan for. A couple of years ago, the Public Works Department put trail maintenance, seal coating, and repair in the CIP because walkability and bikeability is important to our quality of life and it extends the life of the trail by decades. I'm proud to have been a part of that small but meaningful change for our city. 📷 Me, my wife and boys on the Buffalo Hills Trails in 2020.
