Chattanooga, TN – Event Date: June 7, 2014 - The Brainerd Community Farmers Market and the City of Chattanooga celebrate local farms and eating local foods with the TasteBuds 10% Challange and Double EBT/SNAP Dollars. Located across from Bi-Lo on Brainerd Road at 20 Belvoir Avenue, the Brainerd Community Farmers' Market brings farm fresh local produce, meats, and dairy products to the Brainerd Community each Saturday. The June 7th market highlights include special guests Chattanooga Mayor Berke, City Council Representative Carol Berz and TasteBuds magazine's Andrea Jeager. Chattanooga's Mayor Berke will speak at 11:00 am.
The Brainerd Community Farmers Market is held from 10am until 12pm on Saturdays from May 3rd through December 20th, 2014. Local Farmers present their freshly harvested, naturally grown produce, farm fresh eggs, dairy and meat products. Bakers will present delicious artisan breads, sweets and pastries, and fine artists, musicians and craftsmen round out the festive market. The Brainerd Community Farmers Market also invites Chattanoogans to take the TasteBuds 10% Challenge. The TasteBuds 10% Challenge encourages Chattanoogans to pledge to spend 10% of their total food budget on foods grown within 100 miles of Chattanooga. Not only will participants taste the difference, they will be supporting the local economy and our family farms.
The Brainerd Community Farmers Market accepts EBT/ SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program) Card purchases. In addition the market also accepts cash, credit and debit card purchases. Grace Episcopal Church matches EBT/SNAP food purchases at the Brainerd Community Farmers' Market on the first Saturday of each month. Outreach for this program is made possible through a grant from the Community Foundation of Greater Chattanooga. SNAP recipients may bring their Electronic Benefit Transfer (EBT) cards to the farmers market and obtain tokens which may be used to purchase fresh local produce, dairy products, meat products, honey, preserves, baked goods, plants used to produce food at home and much more.
The mission of the Brainerd Farmers Market is to make local organic and sustainably grown produce available to the Chattanooga Brainerd community and to encourage healthy local food choices for Brainerd residents through educational and financial assistance projects for low-income market patrons. Grace Episcopal Church, a 501(c)3 non-profit, provides fiscal sponsorship and the physical location for the weekly farmers' market. Grace Episcopal Church proudly supports local farmers.
