On April 26th, we came together with to host the first BioBlitz at Watson Park. Across just a couple hours, volunteers made 159 observations and documented 67 species through iNaturalist, a citizen science platform. We hope to see the share of native species in the park go up over time. Check out our observations on iNaturalist under the project name "Watson Park BioBlitz."

Stormwater Starts in the Parking Lot
Your parking lot is more than just a place to park, it is a hotspot for runoff pollution. When rain hits trash, oil stains, or spilled materials, it sends all that straight into storm drains and nearby rivers and lakes.

Routine sweeping, spot-cleaning spills, and keeping dumpsters tidy go a long way toward protecting water quality.

Clean lots aren’t just good for business in Braintree, they help meet environmental regs and keep our waterways clear.

Wash Smart, Drive Clean
Washing your car at home might seem convenient, but that soapy water doesn’t disappear, it heads into storm drains and flows straight to local rivers and lakes near Braintree.

Be kind to clean water. Choose a commercial car wash that recycles dirty water. Or wash on the lawn so the ground can soak it up. Go easy on the soap and use biodegradable products when you can.

Small shifts = cleaner streams. Let’s drive a little cleaner.

Keep Cleaners Out of the Stream
What goes down the drain doesn’t just disappear, it heads straight for your nearby streams or rivers in Braintree, untreated.

Paint thinner, cleaners, oils, and other household chemicals can pollute waterways when dumped or rinsed into storm drains.

A few smart steps can go a long way:
• Store products sealed and out of the rain
• Never dump chemicals outside
• Know what’s safe for septic systems

No treatment means no second chances. Protect your pipes, your property, and your watershed.

Feed Your Lawn, Not the Storm Drain
In Braintree, lush lawns are great. Polluted waterways? Not so much.

Before you fertilize, take a minute to test your soil. You might not need as much as you think—and in Massachusetts, phosphorus fertilizers are actually prohibited unless you’re planting new seed or have a soil test that says otherwise.

Choose slow-release or phosphorus-free options. It’s better for your lawn, and way better for our lakes and streams.

Do Your Doody. Keep Our Water Clean.

Your dog's mess doesn’t just disappear. When pet waste is left on the ground, rain can wash it into storm drains and straight into rivers, lakes, and even swimming spots all over Braintree.

That’s a big problem for water quality, fish, and your weekend plans.
💡 Bag it every time. Toss it in the trash. Be the neighbor who sets the example.
Clean sidewalks, cleaner water.

Site Safe, Water Safe
Keeping soil in place protects more than just your project. It helps keep our watershed in Braintree clean.

When erosion control falls short, sediment washes into storm drains and ends up in local waterways. It clouds water, clogs infrastructure, and costs everyone more in the long run.

Cover bare soil with mulch or seed. Use perimeter controls to trap sediment before it leaves your site. Keep things clean, simple, and stormwater smart.
