We have exciting news for AmeriCorps members who are serving in West Virginia! The West Virginia Legislature passed a bill for tuition wavers for national service volunteers serving in WV! Beginning in 2022, AmeriCorps members who selected the Segal Education Award will receive a tuition waver for undergraduate and graduate courses at state institutions of higher education!

Brandon Evans, a native of Welch, is serving with the McDowell County Commission on Aging! He will be establishing new programs as well as community gardens for the MCCOA!

Alicia Erjavec is now in her second year of service with Friends of Blackwater in Thomas (Tucker County). Her favorite project is creating historic signs that will be installed in parks and near historic buildings in the neighboring town of Davis.

Sequoia Ware is our newest AmeriCorps VISTA member! She began her year of service with the City of Huntington's Planning and Development Office on February 14. Her focus is speaking to low-income residents about the housing rehabilitation program in Huntington's West End. We look forward to seeing what she will accomplish over the next year!

We are excited to announce a new VISTA site: the Northern Appalachian Coal Mining Heritage Association! Located in Fairmont, the NACMHA is dedicated to preserving the coal mining heritage of Northern West Virginia. Stay tuned for more information about this VISTA position!

NACMHA was founded in March 2000 and is 501(c)3 non-profit organization. We are dedicated to preserving the coal mining heritage of our region.
