Mid-July means Baldwin Troutarama time! Last weekend we participated in the parade and had multiple teams join the Water Battle for the first time in many years (our highest place was 4th…maybe next year we’ll bring home a trophy😆)!

Plus, we hung out at Whiskey Creek Campground on Sunday for another round of dirt bike races.

A little photo dump from the weekend ...

Many thanks to everyone who came out to support the fire department at our 2nd annual pancake breakfast at Whiskey Creek Campground. We love the opportunity to interact with community members and visitors in this environment! In addition to the breakfast, we provided safety standby for fireworks shows at Whiskey Creek and the Ludington East KOA.

Tonight at our monthly meeting we had some special guests from Nozzlemen M/C Michigan Chapter 7 and they so graciously donated 2 brand new chainsaws-along with maintenance equipment and safety gear- to our department!

The Nozzlemen M/C is a nonprofit club consisting of past and present firefighters, paramedics, and EMTs who have a passion for riding and giving back to their communities. They hold charity rides and events and donate their time and raised funds to meaningful foundations (like the Great Lakes Burn Camp) and local departments.

Our own assistant chief Sam Miller has been a member of Chapter 7 for about a year and had mentioned our need for some new saws. We are so grateful to have been chosen as a recipient of this year’s charity ride donations! We use chainsaws on many different types of calls, such as structure and wildland fires and down trees. Previously, we only had one saw in operation and therefore any significant tree-clearing would be prolonged. Now, with 3 total, our rescue truck, pumper, and brush truck all have chainsaws that can be deployed when needed.

Thank you so much for coming out tonight to meet us and for your gift! Rest assured- our new additions will certainly be put to good use (we’ll try to keep them clean as long as possible😉) and are much appreciated. We encourage everyone to give their page a like to keep up on everything they’re up to!

🚒🥞We are excited to announce the second annual Carr Fire Department pancake breakfast at Whiskey Creek Campground. All you can eat pancakes, sausage, coffee and juice. We will also have several silent auctions happening this year. All proceeds will go towards much needed repairs to our fire station’s roof. We hope to see you there! 🥞🚒

We've had a busy start to the holiday weekend!

Friday evening we assisted our friends at Lake Township Fire & Rescue with a woods fire on private property off of Mac Road. It was just a few acres, but there were a lot of downed limbs and a layer of crispy leaves on the forest floor that made for a fast-spreading fire when the wind gusted. We helped keep it from spreading further while a US Forest Service crew carved a line around it with a dozer.

This afternoon (Saturday) we responded to a call on the Little O trail north of US10 where two dirtbikes had collided head-on. With some concern about head and neck injuries in one patient, we asked for assistance from Webber Township FD to set up a landing zone for Aero-Med. We used our Mule to get as close as possible to the patient, then worked as a team with Life EMS medics and a few of his fellow dirt bikers to carry the patient off the trail and out of the woods. Many thanks to the citizens from a nearby camp who came with chainsaws to clear the trail so we had as smooth a ride as possible!

Started out our Blessing weekend with a bang 💥

Spent all afternoon and evening with our Lake Township Fire & Rescue neighbors, Pleasant Plains Fire Dept., and the U.S. Forest Service fighting the wind on this quick-moving burner.

Here are your reminders for the weekend:
🚨keep an extra eye out for bikes in the area
🚨don’t burn when it’s hot, dry, and windy (check the DNR website at https://www.dnr.state.mi.us/burnpermits/)
🚨be patient and kind if you get stuck in the traffic detail around Baldwin tomorrow 😉

Today marks the graduation of our newest class of firefighters. Following seven months of intense physical training, rigorous testing, and academic study, these dedicated individuals have successfully met every requirement of the academy. With that, we’d like to congratulate our newest firefighters! We are proud to have them serving alongside us and protecting our community.

What a weekend!!

We are forever grateful for the folks who support us so we can continue the important work of serving our community. We had a fun and successful Fireman's Ball on Saturday and would like to thank:

🔥 Michelle and Norm at Whiskey Creek Campground for offering their space and allowing us to host the Ball there this year. You always make us feel welcome, no matter how busy you are. 😁

🔥 Our supporters who went the extra mile(s) to celebrate with us, and who opened up your pocketbooks and purchased cookies, t-shirts, raffle tickets, and placed bids in the fastest live auction ever. 😂 (Thanks to Sanders Meats for the baskets.)

🔥 Backwoods Rural Route Rock Band. You put on a great show and we loved dancing and singing the night away with you.

🔥 Our families and friends who might grumble sometimes, but understand the importance of - and our passion for - the work we do. Sunday we were back at Whiskey Creek bright and early to provide safety standby for Hare Scramble motocross races.

And that afternoon we were called out to help Lake Twp FD on a wildland fire off of 56th Street, which fortunately we were able to knock down pretty quickly with some amazing teamwork.

It might take us a few days to catch up on sleep, but rest assured if you call us, we will be there.
