SPECIAL ELECTION - ALDERMAN Ward 6
Local elections are important. You need to be an informed voter. This Special Election is important (not because Mr. Mann and I are in it), but because of what the Mayor and Board are directly responsible for in serving our community. This body has the most impact on your daily life. Some examples are:
Public works (streets, sewers, etc), police and fire departments (public security and safety), library services, parks and recreation, taxes, education, alcohol and other ordinances, etc.
WHY RUN?
I considered running for the At Large Alderman at the last election. I discussed this with family and some close friends. I determined that I did not want to have that discussion with my employer; so I sat that race out. I ran for Alderman in Morton twice and was fortunate enough to be elected both times. So, I’ve had the desire to serve before. I have that same desire now. Timing is always important. When some found out that I might be retiring, I was contacted about the vacant Alderman seat. I was encouraged to run. After a discussion with Susan and family and after prayer, I decided to that I would give this a try. So desire, interest, support, and timing (being retired) affirmed that I should qualify for this open Alderman seat.
WHY ME?
I have experience in management, supervision, hiring/firing, contracts, sales, purchasing, and finance. Add the fact that I served as an Alderman (smaller budget) provides some city government experience. Building relationships, working well with others, negotiating, and finance represent the skill set that I bring as a candidate.
I think that this Mayor and Board have done a credible job. Some recent successes are the amphitheater, our water system (OUR), and there are lots of projects ongoing; including Grants Ferry Parkway. Now, I understand that this administration cannot please all of us and the methods of how things get done may not please all of us. The outcome, the results have been positive. I see this administration as one that I would like to serve with. I believe my skill set can be helpful and positive to and for this administration.
I am interested in growth…proper and correct growth. I want to maintain a sense of community. I want there to be good communication, and I hope this might lead to a stronger connection among our residents. I believe in Brandon and I think the future is bright.
This Special Election is set for October 11, 2022. Show up, vote. Also; stay current with the actions taken on your behalf. Attend meetings, watch the meetings online, the minutes are available, take a look at them. Call your elected officials. Get involved. If you do not vote, you are giving up your voice. It’s an opportunity, a civic duty. It’s how you properly motivate elected officials. If you do not vote, you may be settling for the status quo.
I humbly request your support, encouragement, your influence, and your vote.
Thank you,
-David E. Farris
