Your Voice Matters: Help Shape the Future of OVUUSD

Vermont’s new education law, Act 170, creates both opportunities and important decisions for school districts across the state. As enrollment declines and we navigate financial pressures, school facilities, and the long-term needs of our communities, the Otter Valley Unified Union School District is beginning an important conversation about the future of our schools.

No decisions have been made about the future of our schools, and any potential merger would require voter approval. Right now, we want to hear from our communities.

Residents of Brandon, Goshen, Leicester, Pittsford, Sudbury, and Whiting are encouraged to take a few minutes to complete our Act 170 Community Survey and share your priorities, concerns, questions, and vision for the future of our schools. Whether you currently have children in our schools, are a former student or parent, are a taxpayer in one of our towns, or simply care about the future of our schools and communities, your perspective matters.

👉 Complete the survey:

The survey responses will help inform the next steps in our community engagement process, including upcoming Act 170 Working Groups hosted by the OVUUSD School Board Planning Task Force - more information on those coming soon!

Thank you to everyone who participated in our Summer Meal Box Program!

Between our two sites, we provided almost 2,800 boxes to kids in our local communities -- that's over 38,000 meals!

And a big shout-out to the teams at Lothrop and Otter Valley who helped get these meals into the hands of our families; we are proud to be part of a community that cares. 💙

Attention parents and guardians! 📣

As the school year gets underway, please remember to complete your child’s annual student registration update, *even if your personal contact information hasn’t changed*.

Here is why completing this update every year is essential:

❄️ Emergency & Weather Alerts: We use this information for emergency notifications and snow day calls/texts. Registering ensures your contact details are active in our alert system so you never miss an urgent update.

✏️ New & Updated Forms: District forms and requirements change yearly, so we need updated acknowledgments on file.

📸 Annual Permissions: State and district guidelines require annual consent for key items, like media/photo releases for school events and publications.

❤️‍🩹 Health & Safety: Critical medical authorizations, including nurse consent to treat and updated medical contact information, must be renewed annually to keep your student safe.

These forms are accessed through our Student Information System at https://rnesu.powerschool.com/public/

Please email [email protected] with questions.

Completing this now ensures your family stays informed throughout the year. Thank you for helping us keep our school community safe and connected!

🚍 Back to School Safety Reminder! 🎒

With school starting up again on Wednesday, please take extra care on the roads! Expect more traffic in the mornings and afternoons, flashing red bus lights, and kids walking or riding bikes to school.

Quick safety check:

🚍🔴 Stop for school buses when red lights are flashing and the stop arm is extended.

🐌🦺 Slow down in school zones and near neighborhood crosswalks.

🚸🚲 Watch for young walkers and cyclists who might be unpredictable.

📱❌ Put away distractions—keep your eyes on the road!

Let’s work together to keep all our students safe this school year! ❤️

Safe travels, everyone!
