INTRODUCING: Welcome to "Rocky", a new arrival tonight. 🦝
She was found all alone, struggling with hind end mobility issues. We're going to let her rest for a while then check her out and hydrate.
Some people consider hydrating simply offering the animal water in a bowl. This is not what we mean. Hydration often has to be forced, via a stomach tube or via Sub-Q injection.
Updates on Rocky's condition are forthcoming.

Thanks to the finders Sarah and Bee for their compassion and for transport from Great Falls.

UPDATE: Dan released the fox after the fox consumed the meds. 🦊 The fox starts to run off, then stops and turns around as if to thank Dan for letting him out of the trap.

CAPTURED & TREATED: This fox was trapped as a suspected mange patient. He was not the targeted animal as he runs with three or four other foxes in the neighborhood who do have mange. We decided to medicate this guy preemptively. Trapping efforts will resume post release of this guy.

Kudos to Linda, Valerie and Kathryn for the successful capture. Thanks to Dan for providing the treat and release service. Teamwork!

INTRODUCING: An injured juvenile male opossum with puncture wounds. We presume this is a dog attack. He's fairly lethargic. He's been hydrated, and his wounds are being treated. The first 24 hours will be an indicator of his prognosis. πŸ™β€οΈ

INTRODUCING: Welcome to 3 new babies that were rescued from an attic in Vienna.

A trapper had been hired to remove and "relocate" Mom. We don't need to ask what happened to her. She leaves behind three babies that the homeowner was then left with to capture and extract from the attic.

With the help of a friend, Diana and Kay successfully captured all three babies that they had been monitoring with cameras for the past week. Excellent work! πŸ‘

Upon capture, they were delivered here to our facility for rehabilitation. Thank you, Michelle, the Transporter! These three babies join the other 30 raccoons in our care. At the appropriate time, they will be released back into the wild. No one remains in captivity. πŸ™ŒπŸ¦β€οΈ

INTRODUCING: Do you know where the phrase "It's raining cats and dogs" comes from?

The term raining cats and dogs derives from Victorian times when street drainage was so poor that pets left on the streets would drown during rain storms. After the rainfall, the dead cats and dogs strewn across the streets made it appear as though it had been raining cats and dogs.

🦝 It's raining raccoons 🦝 here at NRWR. Figuratively, and literally!

This baby evidently fell 20' from the barn rafters, landing on cement, laying in a puddle of rain water. She was alive but completely soaked, ice cold, shallow breathing. I immediately wrapped her in a towel, tucked her under my arm, and made my way back to the house. I placed her in an incubator along with a heated rice sock. We didn't have much hope.

A miracle occurs here.

We suspect that this is the work of "Audrey". Audrey had been rehabbed and released 4 years ago. Each year she returns in the June time frame parading her new gaze. This is the second year she's delivered and raised them in the barn rafters. Was this baby pushed out of the nest or was it just an accidental fall? If the latter, then why didn't Audrey come down to the ground to retrieve her baby? We will have a word with her when she finally shows up next month.

In the meantime we will raise this baby. She has been named "Rayne". 🌧️ β˜”

INTRODUCING: Welcome to 9 new baby opossums, pulled from Mama's pouch after she had been hit by a car.

Mom and babies were discovered by a cyclist who just happened to be peddling by. 🚲 Thank you, Geoff!

By the time we arrived for pick up, the babies were stone cold. Some had road rash and similar injuries. Ultimately, 3 passed from their injuries but 6 survived. Had they not been discovered when they had, none would be alive today. After 48 hrs, all 6 are doing very well. Yay!

INTRODUCING: Three more juvenile raccoons. Mom was hit and killed on the road, leaving these three orphaned.

They were discovered by the neighbors near an adjacent wooded area. They are scared and cautious, but appear healthy and previously well-fed. Post hydration, they were not interested in a bottle and are now eating on their own. 🦝🦝🦝

INTRODUCING: Ten (10) baby opossums who arrived a few days ago, were pulled from their deceased Mom who had been hit by a car.

When the call came in they said it was six babies but they just kept coming. They are all 51-58 grams each. Amazingly, they are all in relatively good condition. This group went to one of our apprentices who has demonstrated proficiency with stomach tubing these babies. We'll post updates on their status as they are received.

During this time of year, please stop if you see a dead opossum along the roadside to check for surviving babies.

INTRODUCING: Welcome to "Pan" (God of the wild, nature, and shepherds). He was named by Michelle and Daya who facilitated his rescue. 🦝

This is the raccoon that was rescued out of a wall by the previously posted wildlife nuisance company, after a not-so-compassionate wildlife nuisance company came to capture (and dispatch) his Mom and his siblings. 😭

Pan arrived dehydrated, weighted 1.14 lbs, with horribly goopy eyes that were sealed closed. After hydration and an ophthalmic antibiotic and 24 hours, his eyes are now clear. He has learned to use the bottle and is eating well. We are hopeful for a full recovery. πŸ™
