INTRODUCING: Do you know where the phrase "It's raining cats and dogs" comes from?
The term raining cats and dogs derives from Victorian times when street drainage was so poor that pets left on the streets would drown during rain storms. After the rainfall, the dead cats and dogs strewn across the streets made it appear as though it had been raining cats and dogs.
π¦ It's raining raccoons π¦ here at NRWR. Figuratively, and literally!
This baby evidently fell 20' from the barn rafters, landing on cement, laying in a puddle of rain water. She was alive but completely soaked, ice cold, shallow breathing. I immediately wrapped her in a towel, tucked her under my arm, and made my way back to the house. I placed her in an incubator along with a heated rice sock. We didn't have much hope.
A miracle occurs here.
We suspect that this is the work of "Audrey". Audrey had been rehabbed and released 4 years ago. Each year she returns in the June time frame parading her new gaze. This is the second year she's delivered and raised them in the barn rafters. Was this baby pushed out of the nest or was it just an accidental fall? If the latter, then why didn't Audrey come down to the ground to retrieve her baby? We will have a word with her when she finally shows up next month.
In the meantime we will raise this baby. She has been named "Rayne". π§οΈ β
