🚨 Flood Safety Reminder 🚨

Heavy rain is coming over the next days, especially tomorrow afternoon/evening. It can quickly create dangerous flooding on our roadways. Please never drive or walk through flood waters.

Areas that commonly experience flooding in our area include:
🌊 Thimble Island Road under the train bridge
🌊 Leetes Island Road near Sawmill Hill Road
🌊 Leetes Island Road at the train bridge on the Branford/Guilford town line
🌊Tabor Drive
🌊 Montowese Street Bridge
🌊 Meadow Street
🌊 And any other low lying areas

What may look like a few inches of water can hide serious hazards, including:
⚠️ Missing or displaced manhole covers
⚠️ Open storm drains
⚠️ Washed-out pavement
⚠️ Fast-moving water that can sweep away vehicles or pedestrians

Making the wrong decision can be dangerous—and expensive. A stalled or swept-away vehicle, property damage, or serious injury isn’t worth the risk.

If you encounter a flooded roadway:
✅ Turn around—don’t drive through it.
âś… Never walk through flood water.
âś… Find a safe place to wait out the storm if needed.
âś… Plan ahead and allow extra travel time during heavy rain events.

Your patience today could save your life tomorrow.

Turn Around, Don’t Drown. Stay safe, look out for one another, and leave water rescues to trained emergency responders🚒

It’s been a busy couple of months for the members of Company 5 and the entire Branford fire department responding to multiple fires across town. The cold weather has made it a challenge to operate at any scene. Company 5 is always looking for new members wether it be active Fire, EMS or administrative personnel. Stop by company 5 any Monday night at 7pm or Branford fire HQ to learn more!

With yesterday snowfall please keep these tips in mind:
đźš’ Fire Hydrants
Please shovel out fire hydrants near your home.
Crews lose precious time digging them out during emergencies.
Clear 3 feet around the hydrant and a path to the street if possible.

❄️ Shovel Smart
Shovel early and often to prevent heavy buildup.

Push snow instead of lifting when you can, and take breaks—especially during heavy or wet snow.

❤️ Neighbors helping neighbors is what keeps our community safe.

Thank you for doing your part—and thank you for supporting your volunteer firefighters! 👨‍🚒👩‍🚒
