STRUCTURE FIRE — AUGUST 31, 2026

At approximately 12:20 p.m. on August 31, 2026, Southern Stone County Fire Protection District units responded to a reported residential structure fire in the vicinity of Joe Bald Road and Hoot Owl Point.

Upon arrival, the first units on scene reported the garage area was fully involved, with fire spreading into the structure. Due to the size and intensity of the fire, a fourth alarm was sounded, bringing additional fire personnel and water tankers to the scene.

It was quickly learned upon arrival that there were approximately 15 dogs inside the residence. Five were located in the garage in kennels. Fire crews cut through the garage doors to rescue the animals. Three of the dogs were unresponsive and did not appear to be breathing. Emergency responders immediately conducted resuscitation efforts and the animals were ultimately revived successfully. The other animals were unharmed.

We were assisted by crews from:

• Branson Fire Department
• Western Taney County Fire Department
• Central Crossing Fire Department
• Highlandville Fire Department

Hoot Owl Point was closed to all thru traffic for several hours while firefighters worked to control the fire. The Stone County Sheriff’s Department assisted with traffic control and road closures.

The Stone County Ambulance District also responded and conducted rehabilitation assessments on our firefighters and support personnel due to the extreme heat conditions.

Despite the efforts of all responding agencies, the residential structure appears to be a total loss.

No injuries were reported and the cause of the fire remains under investigation.

We sincerely appreciate all of the mutual-aid departments and agencies who responded and worked alongside our crews today. Your assistance is invaluable.

Neighbors Helping Neighbors.
