Horicon Fire Department Inc. HFD also operates a water rescue/dive team.

Horicon fire dept currently houses 3 Engine/Tankers, 2 rescue trucks, and 1 mini pumper/brush truck at 2 stations also available are an airboat, 2 zodiac inflatable boats, a six wheeler and snowmobile .

May was a fairly busy month for HFD. As the weather warms up and more people flock to the Adirondacks to enjoy everything summer has to offer, we’d like to remind everyone to stay safe while making the most of the season.

Whether you’re boating, kayaking, tubing, hiking, camping, or simply enjoying time outdoors, please take a few extra precautions. Always wear your PFD (life jacket) when appropriate, be aware of changing water conditions on local rivers and lakes, never leave campfires unattended, and make sure they are completely extinguished before leaving.

We would also like to remind motorists to yield to emergency vehicles when first responders are responding to calls. There are times when roads must be closed for extended periods during emergencies. We understand how frustrating delays can be, but please remember that road closures are implemented out of necessity to protect both the public and emergency personnel—not to inconvenience anyone.

This last Saturday we had our annual banquet. We celebrated the top 5 responders... 1.Jeff Monroe 🔥 2. Roger Daby 🔥 3. Wayne Monroe 🚒 4. Greg Francisco 👨‍🚒 and 5. Scott Hayes 👨‍🚒 the Over ALL top responders of the year was Jeff Monroe attending 124 out of 149 total events of the whole year! Well done Cap! 🏆
We had a couple year pins to hand out Collin Monroe with 5 years 🌟 And Mr. Bill Houck with 55 years of service 🏆 Thank you Gentleman for your dedication!!
We also had a couple special things to hand out. May 1st 2025 Chestertown Volunteer Fire Department chief Daren Harvey was in Horicon and ran into an apartment building 🏠 where there was a report of a grease fire spreading. The fire was rolling up the kitchen cabinets and into the ceiling. Without hesitation Chief Harvey grabbed the burning pot and carried it down approximately 20 steps to the yard and saved 6 apartments! 🥇 We shall call it the save of the year!! Thank you Harv for always being in the right spot and doing more than you have to! ✌️
We also had another special one. We tragically lost a long time fireman this year (2025) Greg Francisco (his son) and our 1st assistant chief, recieved a flag that was flown over the capital in Johnny's honor and a case with Johnny's dates of service! 🇺🇸 Thank you Mr. Matthew Simpson and staff (Todd and Matt) for making that one happen!!

A heartfelt thank you to members Donna Cantone and Wayne Monroe for taking time out of their cold, rainy Saturday to place memorial flags at the headstones of our past members in local cemeteries.

Their dedication and respect help ensure the service and sacrifice of those who came before us are never forgotten. 🇺🇸
