We are so excited to announce that Fractured, Not Broken: The Prison Quilt Project opens tomorrow September 9 at the Brattleboro Museum & Art Center.
Designed, pieced, and painted by incarcerated participants at Southern State Correctional Facility in Springfield, Vermont, the quilt was created during a workshop held from September 2025 through April 2026.
This summer, the quilt traveled throughout the Brattleboro community, inviting people on the outside to help complete its final stitches. Community members added their own stitches at Gallery Walk, the Brattleboro Food Co-op, Bobbin & Skein, and Brooks Memorial Library.
The quilt begins its next chapter at the Brattleboro Museum & Art Center, bringing together art, data, restorative justice, resilience, and community connection. Come see the art from inside the prison and find all the community stitches and messages!

What is summer without an outdoor adventure? The youth at Friends for Change have been having a blast exploring Vermont State Parks! From hiking and picnicking to kayaking and exploring, there’s been no shortage of good times! We’re very grateful for this grant from Vermont State Parks and the opportunity to create meaningful connections outdoors! And, as always, there’s also been lots of art and cooking happening too!

We had another great stitching day at the It was inspiring to see more community members come together to add their stitches and personal touches to this collective project. Created by participants at the Springfield, Vermont prison, the quilt continues to grow through your participation! Will you join us on this Friday, August 7th, at 5-8pm? Last stop will be August 10th at the 5-7pm! Come see the quilt, take a closer look, add your stitches, and learn more about the stories woven into this project.

At Gallery Walk more than 40 people took the time to sit and add stitches to the quilt! We were so inspired during this first stop: Thanks so much to Suzanne and Sally our restorative justice volunteers and talented crafters for helping people get started stitching! Thank you to local artist who provided a cyanotype workshop at the prison and came to support our Gallery Walk event! So special! Let's keep the stitches coming! Join us next week Wednesday July 29 at the Brattleboro Food Coop (2-4PM), August 7, 2026, Gallery Walk: Bobbin & Skien, and August 10, 5-7pm at the Brattleboro Brooks Memorial Library.
