The Vermont Department of Environmental Conservation invites
the public to comment on the draft Tactical Basin Plan (TBP) for the West, Williams, and Saxtons Rivers Basin (also known as Basin 11). DEC completed the plan with local nonprofits, regional planners, town officials, and scientists. The plan outlines more than 75 ways to restore and protect rivers, lakes, and wetlands within a portion of Vermont’s Connecticut River Basin, covering towns from Mount Holly to Brattleboro.

Members of the public can review and comment on the draft plan from June 15 to July 15, 2026. DEC will host hybrid public meetings to present the plan and hear comments from community members and stakeholders:

June 25, 2026 – 6:00 PM: In-Person: Londonderry Town Office, 100 Old School Street, South Londonderry, VT

Pasture walk at corse family farm, you don’t want to miss it!
Tuesday July 14th at 10am! 🐄🐄🐄
Join grazing consultant and educator Sarah Flack, DGA mentor Leon Corse and his partners, Linda, Abbie & MacKenzie and their current DGA apprentice, Chris, for a pasture walk at the Corse Farm Dairy. This interactive workshop will cover advanced grazing topics, including improving pasture productivity and quality, increasing forage digestibility, managing pastures after drought and high rainfall events, building soil health, and plant identification. Participants will gain practical, field-based insights and opportunities for discussion and peer learning throughout the walk. There will also be an opportunity to learn more about the Dairy Grazing Apprenticeship program from Leon, who has supported and mentored many apprentices through the program and from partner, MacKenzie, a DGA graduate and journeyman grazier and Leon’s daughter, Abbie, who pushed him to become a mentor!

Have you spotted a boot brush station on your favorite trail? Such as on the Retreat Farm Trail system?
Boot brush stations provide a simple way to help stop the spread of invasive species.
Seeds, mud, and plant fragments can cling to footwear and travel long distances between
natural areas.
Before you head down the trail, take a moment to:
✔ Brush off your boots
✔ Remove mud and debris
✔ Check your clothing and gear
It only takes a few seconds, but those small actions help protect local ecosystems and
reduce the spread of invasive species.

The month of June is the main nesting period for many bird species! On a recent site visit to a beautiful hayfield, we discovered this Savannah Sparrow nest tucked among the grasses and heard countless Bobolinks singing away nearby.

The Connecticut River Valley Grassland Bird Project increases the nesting success of grassland birds in the Connecticut River Valley by providing information, technical support, and financial assistance to landowners and farmers who manage hayfields. Happy reading day to our students! We had a great celebration to end of this two-semester course. Our student group did great work to engage with the Rock River community and we are looking forward to continuing to build on this collaboration!
