The AK86 features a thick full-hollow body design with a laminated spruce top and cream multi-binding on flamed maple back and sides with a single pointed Florentine cutaway mated to a set-in mahogany and maple neck with a 22-fret rosewood fingerboard with cream binding and abalone black position markers.

Components include dual Ibanez Artcore humbucking pickups with chrome covers and individual volume and tone controls, an ART-W bridge with wooden saddle and base, a VT100DX wood-decorated tailpiece, ivory plastic nut and pickup rings, a spruce pick guard with matching finish, speed k***s, and Ibanez tuning machines.
