Volunteers wanted to help with Hemlock Woolly Adelgid (HWA) study in Windham County. If you live near Jamaica, Fort Dummer, or Townsend State Park and like to take regular walks outdoors, your help is needed! Volunteers are needed to help Forester Jim Esden with phenology studies of hemlock woolly adelgid. A critical factor for success with biocontrol of HWA is knowing when two important HWA life stages occur – the progrediens and sistens phase. Volunteers would go out approximately once a week, harvest a small piece of a hemlock twig infested with HWA, bring the twig home, examine it under a magnifier or hand lens, and keep a log of observations. If you are interested in participating, please email [email protected]. If you know of another confirmed HWA infestation that is not in one of these state parks, you are also welcome to participate in the study.

The community is invited to a pop-up event celebrating Alley Lane: the alley next to the Brattleboro Transportation Center at 77 Flat St. Come enjoy ice cream floats and witness Alley Lane transformed. Through art, activities, games and stories, this pop-up, funded by AARP, aims to enliven this connector space between Flat and Elliot Streets and to celebrate the significance of the Connecticut River watershed to our community.
