The Vermont History Museum is Central Vermont's destination to learn about the history of the Green Mountain State. Located in the Pavilion Building in downtown Montpelier, it showcases the Vermont Historical Society's collections through its exhibits and educational programming.

BOOK LAUNCH with local reporter Joyce Marcel on Wednesday, September 9th from 6:30 to 8 PM in Brooks Memorial Library's Main Reading Room: Mark your calendars for this fun-filled interview by Joyce's husband and The Commons News Editor, Randy Holhut. Donations to the Annual Friends of Brooks Memorial Library Book Sale will be accepted from Tuesday, September 1 – Thursday, November 12, 2026!

Our front entrance will remain closed for most of the donation season, so please call ahead if you will need assistance bringing books from the Municipal parking lot to the first floor circulation desk. Please only donate books that are gently used and in good condition. If you have questions about donation requirements or if you have a large quantity of boxes to donate, call 802-254-5290, extension 0.

Thanks to generous book donations, the Friends of Brooks Memorial Library are able to conduct book sales generating funds to support special library programs, resources (e.g. museum passes, Kanopy), and the purchase of library equipment.

Coinciding with the building improvements happening at the library and this year's Summer Reading theme, Unearth a Story, we are excited to collect letters for a community time capsule!

There is a station to write your letter at the first floor craft table and in the children's room. We will store the letters in a time capsule inside the library and revisit them in ten years.

We've entered a new phase of construction! The Main St. entrance is now closed. Please use the upper entrance. Library 2 hour parking is now in the Municipal parking lot off of Grove Street. The Main St. entrance will be closed through the Fall.

Our renovation project will bring changes to building access beginning this week.

The library's upper entrance, accessible from the Municipal Center parking lot, will reopen on Wednesday, August 12, 2026. Beginning Monday, August 17, the library's Main Street entrance will close and is expected to remain closed through the fall. Patrons should use the upper entrance to access the library during this phase of construction.

Also beginning August 17, all designated library parking will be relocated to the Brattleboro Municipal Center parking lot. This includes accessible parking, 15-minute parking and two-hour parking spaces.

These changes are part of the ongoing renovation of the library's exterior, which includes improvements to the sidewalks, walkways and other areas surrounding the building. For more information call 802-254-5290 or visit: https://brookslibraryvt.org/.../building-grounds.../
