The Clay County Commissioners have elected to allow the Clay County Courthouse to remain open to the public, however, they are requiring everyone to wear masks upon entering the courthouse, allow for social distancing and wash your hands frequently. They are encouraging everyone that can possibly conduct their business over the phone or by email to do that instead of visiting the courthouse in person. Our office will do everything within our abilities to assist you over the phone or by email so you are not putting yourself or others at risk of contracting this virus. Again, our office phone number is 812-448-9013; we are open Monday through Friday 8 a.m. - 4 p.m. We have staggered lunch hours in this office so we do not close our office during lunch. The courthouse will be closed November 26th and 27th for Thanksgiving.

As of this week, our office is open by appointment only. Starting Monday, May 18th, the courthouse will be open to the public. You will be required to wear a facemask in order to enter the building. It is recommended that you call ahead to schedule an appointment if business is not able to be handled over the phone. This will also prevent having extra people wait as our office will only be allowing 2 people inside at one time, and most offices will have their own limit. We appreciate your patience during this time.

The Clay County Commissioners have decided that the Clay County Courthouse will be closed to the public through April 20, 2020. Since we are not open to the public, our office has been calling individuals who have filed personal property with our office last year to see what kind of form they would like this year. If you have a CPA file your papers for you, then we have not attempted to contact you.
If you have not received a call from our office and would like us to mail you a form for your filing this year, please call our office and leave us a message indicating your name, a phone number you can be reached at, your mailing address,and whether or not you have bought or sold any equipment between Jan. 1, 2019 and Dec. 31, 2019.
We have been working on certifying all of the values in our county so we can prepare to mail out the Form 11s in a few weeks. These forms indicate the value of your property last year and what it is valued at this year. While we cannot answer any questions regarding your tax bill, we can answer questions about the values on your Form 11. These forms should be mailed out the end of April so you can expect them in your mail the first of May, 2020.

Due to the ever evolving Covid-19 situation, the Clay County Commissioners have made the difficult decision to close the Clay County Courthouse and all county offices to the public effective Friday, March 20, 2020 until further notice.
The east and west doors will have all courthouse office numbers posted that are located within the courthouse. If the office is located in a location other than the courthouse, please check our Clay County website for their phone number. Our public website is www.claycountyin.gov.
