Celebrating JUNETEENTH 🎉!!

Juneteenth is a FEDERAL HOLIDAY in the United States celebrated annually on June 19 to commemorate the end of slavery. On June 19, 1865, Major General Gordon Granger ordered the final enforcement of the Emancipation Proclamation in Texas, freeing the last remaining enslaved people in the state. This holiday was first recognized in Texas in 1980 and became a federal holiday on June 17, 2021, when President Joe Biden signed the Juneteenth National Independence Day Act into law.

“Class Dismissed, Legacy In Session”
theme for our 39th Annual Scholarship Banquet celebrated on Saturday honoring retired teachers at the GMZ Event Center. Retired Teachers we are honored from all neighboring school districts. Our beloved and distinguished 101 years old pillar of our teaching community is Mrs. Tena Simien. Dr. Tory C. Hill, Channelview ISD Superintendent and Superintendent of the Year for Texas Alliance of Black School Educators,
gave an inspirational message titled, “The Lesson Lives On.”
