Unofficial Results for BISD Board of Trustee Election.

03/26/2026

Dear Breckenridge ISD Parents and Community,

I am writing to share an important update regarding the planning of our new elementary school made possible by the voter-approved November 2025 bond.

At a special meeting yesterday evening, the Breckenridge ISD Board of Trustees authorized me to enter into negotiations with the Breckenridge Economic Development Corporation (BEDC) for the potential purchase of property located north of Walmart as the possible site for our future elementary campus.

We recognize that this differs from earlier discussions about the location of the new school. However, during our community meetings and town halls last fall, we heard a lot of concerns regarding the proposed site at South Elementary. While balancing what is best for BISD students and staff, community concerns, as well as overall cost, the Board has been and will continue to be diligent in identifying the best possible location for a Pre-K through 5th grade facility that will serve our students for generations to come. They remain committed to making thoughtful, informed decisions that prioritize our students' safety, educational quality, and the long-term needs of our district.

We understand that questions and concerns may arise. Please know that we are committed to working with our parents, community members, and other stakeholders to move our district forward and ensure we are providing the best opportunities and learning environments for all students.

This is an exciting time for our district and community, and we appreciate your continued support and partnership as we take these next steps for our students.

Sincerely,
Prairie Freeman

Due to lingering weather conditions, we will operate on a late start schedule tomorrow.
β€’ School will begin at 10:00 AM
β€’ Buses will run two hours later than normal
β€’ All staff should report at 9:30 AM

The purpose of a late start is to give everyone ample opportunity to take their time and arrive safely. While main roadways are generally clear, many side streets remain slick and potentially hazardous.

The same conditions exist on our campuses. Front sidewalks and main entrances have been cleared, but pick up/drop off zones, parking lots, and sidewalks leading up to buildings may still be icy and slick. Please use extra caution, allow yourself additional travel time, and move carefully once you arrive.

We also want to emphasize the importance of attendance. As we return, it is important for students to be present so they can reconnect with their teachers and begin making up instructional time missed earlier this week. Please be sure students arrive with all devices and materials needed to fully participate in class.

Thank you for your patience, flexibility, and continued support as we navigate these weather conditions together.

Due to continued hazardous icy road conditions, BISD will be closed on Wednesday, January 28.

The safety of our students, staff, and families remains our top priority. Current conditions, along with temperatures remaining below freezing, make travel unsafe across our district.

We will continue to closely monitor weather forecasts and road conditions and will communicate any updates regarding school operations and activities as soon as possible.

Thank you for your patience, understanding, and continued support as we prioritize safety.

Due to continued inclement weather conditions and temperatures that are not expected to rise above freezing until tomorrow afternoon, school will be canceled on Tuesday, January 27.

Again, we will continue to closely monitor weather forecasts and road conditions and will make a determination regarding school operations for Wednesday as soon as possible. Families and staff will be notified promptly once a plan is finalized.

In addition, campus and district leaders will evaluate all extracurricular activities and events scheduled for the remainder of the week. Information regarding cancellations or rescheduling will be communicated by the appropriate campus or program as decisions are made.

For community awareness, the courthouse is expected to open at noon tomorrow. However, city offices will also remain closed.

We appreciate your understanding and patience as we navigate these conditions together. Please stay safe and take care.

District, City, and County Closures

Dear Parents, Staff, and Community,

Due to current conditions and out of an abundance of caution for the safety of our students, staff, and community, the school district, county and city offices will be closed on Monday, January 26th.

Please see the following specific details regarding the county closure:

The courthouse will open briefly at 10:00 a.m. for the sole purpose of conducting the scheduled Commissioners Court meeting and will close immediately following the conclusion of that meeting. No other county offices will be open, and no additional services will be available during this time.

All entities will continue to closely monitor the situation and assess conditions throughout the day on Monday to determine a plan for Tuesday. We will communicate any updates as soon as a decision is made.

Thank you for your understanding and continued support as we prioritize the safety and well-being of our school and entire community.
