Wrapping up some serious training out here at the Wilkin County Sheriff's Office!

A few of our staff members completed The WRAP Instructor Training last Friday, learning all about this innovative alternative restraint system designed to keep everyone safer (subjects and officers) during those tougher situations.

You might not be able to tell by the pictures... but we promise they took it 100% seriously. No one was just practicing their "human burrito" skills.

Shoutout to the team for stepping up and getting certified as instructors. Safer tools = smarter policing for our community.

🚨 Telecommunications Week 🚨

This week, we want to shine a spotlight on the incredible men and women in our dispatch center who keep Wilkin County safe every single day.

To our dedicated dispatchers: Thank you! We are truly grateful for your professionalism, quick thinking, and calm presence under pressure. You are the heartbeat of our department, handling calls with care and expertise, coordinating responses, and making sure help arrives when it matters most.

You're often the first voice our residents hear in their moment of need, the calm in the chaos, the first to take the call and set everything in motion. Your role is vital, and we couldn't do what we do without you.

Thank you for all you do, 24/7/365. Wilkin County is safer and stronger because of you!

❄️ Extreme Cold Weather Alert ❄️

Wilkin County is under an Extreme Cold Warning now through noon on Friday.
Dangerously cold wind chills as low as –50°F are expected — the kind of cold where exposed skin doesn’t want to stick around very long.

An Extreme Cold Watch is in effect from Friday afternoon through Sunday morning, with wind chills as low as –45°F possible. Still very cold, still not a good time for unnecessary outdoor adventures.

These conditions can cause frostbite on exposed skin within minutes and significantly increase the risk of hypothermia.

Please take precautions:
• Limit time outdoors (this is not the weather to “run a quick errand”)
• Dress in multiple warm layers and cover exposed skin
• Ensure vehicles are winter-ready
• Check on neighbors, especially the elderly
• Bring pets indoors or provide adequate shelter

Public safety is our priority. Please plan ahead, use caution, and stay informed as conditions change.
