Here's a Fisheries Update from our friend Jim Nickel

FISHERIES.. 2026. Pelican Lake has a DNR fisheries stocking plan. Each May, 3,900,000 walleye fry are stocked in our lake. This past year, DNR fisheries stocked 2,000,000 walleye fry. The DNR believed that stocking fewer walleye fry would result in a higher survival rate. The fall electrofishing testing showed that this plan was unsuccessful. Based on this minimal walleye fry survival, 2,531 lbs. of walleye fingerlings were stocked in October, which is about 71,500 fingerlings. The goal of stocking 600 lbs. of yearling walleye matching biogenetic markers is planned for this spring to supplement the DNR’s stocking. We have taken an aggressive step to increase dissolved oxygen levels in Little Pelican, Stewart Bay, Mousseau Bay, and Cree Bay by opening weedy boat channels to allow more free-flowing water, benefiting our shorelines. This strategy should help raise oxygen levels closer to our shores and should improve baitfish creation and survival.
