Throwback Thursday
RPFD once operated this 1945 ex-military 6x6 Dodge Weapons Carrier as part of its apparatus fleet. Military surplus and military-spec vehicles were a natural choice for Rockaway Point Fire Department because of their exceptional off-road capabilities, which were essential for serving our unique terrain.

Throwback Thursday
Pictured here is the Rockaway Point Fire Department’s Engine Company No. 1, also known as Headquarters. Construction of this firehouse began in 1914 and it was placed into service in the summer of 1915. The building was officially dedicated on July 29, 1915 and served as RPFD’s second fire station.

This photograph is believed to have been taken shortly after the firehouse was completed. Standing on the left wearing the white hat is RPFD’s first Chief and co-founder, Frank Frolke.

A proud moment in our department’s early history and a reminder of the generations of volunteers who built the foundation of the Rockaway Point Fire Department.

Throwback Thursday
Members of the Rockaway Point Fire Department pose in front of Hose Company No. 3, one of the department’s five stations at the time. Located at 137 Ocean Avenue, the firehouse was dedicated on August 9, 1931 and served the community for many years. While Hose Company No. 3 no longer exists, it remains an important part of RPFD’s story and a reminder of the strong history and tradition that make our community so special.

Rockaway Point Volunteer Fire Department – Snow Shoveling Safety Notice:

When we mention “HEAVY” snowfall we are not just talking about amounts that fall we are talking actual weight of the snow!

• Avoid overexertion — take frequent breaks
• Push snow whenever possible
• Lift with your legs, not your back
• Stay hydrated and dress in layers
• Stop immediately if you experience chest pain, dizziness, or shortness of breath

Heavy, wet snow places significant strain on the heart. Know your limits and seek assistance if needed.

Please remember to check on elderly or vulnerable neighbors during and after the storm.

✨ ❄️The calm before the storm! ❄️ ✨

We’re a couple days away from expected snowfall.

While the forecast is still evolving, now is the time to prepare your home and family so you don’t have to rush later.

We’re asking everyone to heed early advisories and keep a close eye on subsequent warnings or travel advisories over the next couple of days.

Sunday, Monday maybe even Tuesday…. PLEASE!! If you can stay home….Stay!

AVOID UNNECESSARY TRAVEL!

Your 3-Day Checklist:
• Vehicle Prep: Top off your gas tank and check your tire pressure.
• Home Safety: Ensure you have salt/sand and that your snow removal equipment is in working order.
• Emergency Kit: Refill medication or prescriptions you may be low on and that are absolute necessities.
• Power Check: Charge external battery packs and locate your flashlights.

For a quick giggle: Don’t clear the shelves of toilet paper there is plenty to go around 😉

If you have a neighbor who might struggle with shoveling or losing power, check in on them while the weather is still clear! 🤝
