If you’re looking for a fun finish to your Memorial Day, the splash pad is open ahead of schedule! We’ll be be open free of charge (starting right now!) until 8:00 tonight! We’ll officially start the season and resume normal operating hours tomorrow!

You never quite know what a day will bring when you work at the Bremen Park Department. Our day started with a phone call about a distressed bird needing our help…imagine our faces when that bird turned out to be a three and a half foot tall sandhill crane! We were able to safety capture the crane and are transporting it to one of Indiana’s only state and federally certified bird rehabbers where he’ll be tested for a number of conditions, cared for, and hopefully released.

*If you see an injured or distressed animal, please do not approach on your own. Throughout the process we were in constant contact with avian experts who walked us through safe and proper handling and procedures!*

We’ve been keeping a bit of a secret…but as Spring’s starting to spring, we thought we’d let you in on it!

Toward the end of 2025, we hired Austin Huff as our Assistant Superintendent! Austin’s a 2012 graduate of Bremen High School that went on to obtain a bachelors degree in forestry from Purdue University. He spent the last 8 years as an arborist in Seattle, Washington; climbing, pruning, and caring for trees. Austin recently moved back to Bremen with his wife Alex and their dog Hemlock. He enjoys woodworking, traveling, and playing basketball. You’re sure to see Austin around the park, so stop by, say “hi,” and help us welcome Austin to his new positon and back to Bremen!

We knew it was cold…but had no idea it was THIS cold! You may or may not believe it, but we found someone’s buns literally frozen solid at Jane’s Park today!

If you were at the playground and remember freezing your buns off this morning, stop by the park office to retrieve them—we’ll be thawing yours (and ours) there for the foreseeable future. 🤔 🥴😳

When you find out you’re unexpectedly hosting the first-ever sectional champion Bremen Girls’ Soccer team in their regional game…after you’d already shut down and winterized the field for the year, you quickly start making phone calls to get the field into tiptop shape. One of our first calls was to Mr. John Pfeiffer who personally delivered and let us borrow his roller. Another call went out to Matt Huff at Turf Tenders who applied an extra dose of fertilizer for the game. Both these gentlemen responded immediately…and on a holiday, no less! Thanks John (Lora) and Matt! People like you are what make Bremen “a good town”!

(P.s. If you lost a quarter and can tell us which toilet you were using when you lost it, it’s now sitting in the park lost and found. 😂😂)
