Meals on Wheels Kitsap has been the major provider of nutrition services for elderly persons age 60 years and older in Kitsap County since 1973. The organization provides meals and other nutrition services at five of its nine community dining locations throughout the county and delivers meals directly to homebound elderly. The organization's target population are frail, low-income elderly persons

who depend on well-balanced meals for their primary source of nutrition. Good nutrition improves health, maintains functionality, prolongs independence, benefits quality of life, and saves money. The meals provide good nutrition and volunteers delivering the meals or serving them at the meal sites provide the vital human contact we all need.

Are you age 60 or older? If yes, you may qualify for the Senior Farmers Market Nutrition Program (SFMNP). The SFMNP provides benefits to lower-income older adults to purchase locally grown fruits, vegetables, honey, and herbs. It also helps local farmers by encouraging people to shop at farmers' markets and roadside stands. Applications are still available and being accepted on a first-come basis. The program runs from June 1 to October 31.

The Senior Farmers Market Nutrition Program helps eligible seniors in Kitsap County use benefits at local farmers markets to access fresh fruits and vegetables.
