Please join us in celebrating our local dispatchers during National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week!!
National County Government Month – 911 Dispatch (Telecommunicators)
Today, we are proud to highlight the dedicated professionals who serve as the critical link between our community and emergency responders — our Washington County Telecommunicators.
Today marks the start of National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week (NPSTW), observed April 12–18, 2026. Celebrated annually during the second full week of April, this special week honors the “unseen heroes” of public safety — 911 dispatchers, call-takers, and radio operators — who provide critical, life-saving support during emergencies.
Led by Interim Director Raleigh Wellmann, our Telecommunicators (TCOs) are the calm voices on the other end of the line during moments of crisis. Their professionalism, composure, and quick decision-making help ensure that emergency services are dispatched swiftly and effectively when every second counts.
What do our Telecommunicators do?
✔️ Receive and process 911 emergency and non-emergency calls
✔️ Dispatch law enforcement, fire, EMS, and other public safety partners
✔️ Provide life-saving pre-arrival instructions to callers in distress
✔️ Monitor multiple radio channels, phone lines, and computer systems simultaneously
✔️ Prioritize and coordinate emergency responses
✔️ Maintain accurate and detailed records
✔️ Provide assistance to the public 24 hours a day, 7 days a week
Our Telecommunicators remain ready to serve at all times — days, nights, weekends, and holidays — ensuring that help is always just a phone call away.
Today, and throughout the week, we extend our sincere gratitude to our Telecommunicators for their dedication, professionalism, and unwavering commitment to the safety of Washington County.
Stay tuned as we continue highlighting the departments and people who keep Washington County running!
