🎤Join us on Monday 8/31 for Open Mic Night, an evening of live music and spoken word from 5 to 8pm in the Linda A. Johnston Memorial Amphitheater at the Mary E. Bartlett Memorial Library.

Bring your instrument, voice, poetry & heart to share in community, with unity. All are welcome! This Open Mic event is co-hosted with the Pilgrim UCC.

Please note, this program is rain or shine! If the weather is unfavorable, we'll simply move the fun indoors.

The kids’ room at the library is often abuzz with activity, and this month that included the metamorphosis of Monarch caterpillars and butterflies🐛🦋! Stop by the kids’ room this week and if you're lucky you may get to see a new, beautiful Monarch butterfly or two!

We started a few weeks ago with some little caterpillars on milkweed and ended up with 6 caterpillars total! Those caterpillars munched milkweed over a couple of weeks, then made their chrysalises, and are now in various stages of development. We’ve released 2 butterflies already, and expect another four to emerge at various points within the week. These are likely migratory butterflies which will migrate South for the winter.

We’ve finally tallied up all the numbers from our summer reading program and WOW🤩!

📚We had 216 people register for reading challenges, and all combined, people read for 2,870 hours! That’s the equivalent of reading for 119 days straight!

📚Let’s keep the reading going! And now that we're catching up on our book orders, there are lots of new titles hitting the shelves! Come in and check out what’s exciting and new!

Also, if you haven’t already, kids can stop in for a special "Plant a Seed, Read" summer program 3D printed toy to take home🪴🍌

🌻This year’s summer reading program theme, “Plant a Seed, Read”, inspired us to reflect on the beauty and importance of plants, the environment and pollinators. And just as plants🌱 grow food that nourishes our bodies, libraries and stories📖 grow ideas that nourish our minds and a sense of community! We hope the “seeds” we planted during our program this summer continue to blossom💐
