Every single TCS school met or exceeded its growth expectations this year, and districtwide proficiency reached its highest level since 2015, growing more than 8% compared to last year.
Did you know we also ranked #1 in WNC across several metrics? Some standout numbers from across the Western North Carolina region:
🥇 TCS is #1 in WNC for grade-level proficiency among students with disabilities
🥇 TCS is #1 in WNC for grade-level proficiency among economically disadvantaged students
🥇 TCS is #1 in WNC for 8th grade EOG proficiency overall
🥇 TCS is #1 in WNC for 4th grade math and Math 3 proficiency
🥇 TCS is #1 in WNC for 8th grade science and HS Biology
📈 Our graduation rate is 90.6%, ahead of the 88.8% state average
🥈 TCS is #2 overall in the WNC region for proficiency
But, we are more than a score. A letter grade, or even a regional/state ranking, is only one measure of what's happening in our schools.
Our vision is to lead education by cultivating resilient, future-ready students. These scores, while showing excellent growth, are not a full picture of the great things that are happening as teachers collaborate, principals lead, parents partner, and students become caring, well-rounded citizens.
We're incredibly proud of this progress and our regional rankings. And, we're staying true to our mission of fostering a safe, supportive and innovative learning environment for every student, in every school, every day. There's more work ahead, and we're committed to it.

BIG ANNOUNCEMENT!

Transylvania County Schools has received its 2025-2026 NC testing results from the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction, and there's a lot to celebrate. Every single TCS school met or exceeded its growth expectations this year, and districtwide proficiency reached its highest level since 2015, growing more than 8% compared to the 2024-2025 school year.

Brevard Middle School: B, Exceeds Growth

Pisgah Forest Elementary School: B, Exceeds Growth

T.C. Henderson School of Science and Technology: B, Exceeds Growth

Brevard High School: B, Meets Growth

Rosman High School: B, Meets Growth

Rosman Elementary School: B, Meets Growth

Rosman Middle School: C, Meets Growth

Brevard Elementary School: C, Meets Growth

Davidson River School: Alternative School Accountability Model

School letter grades are calculated using a formula set by the state, with 80% of the score based on student proficiency on state tests and 20% based on academic growth. That formula doesn't always capture the whole picture of how students are progressing, particularly at schools serving a wide range of starting points. Even so, this year's school report card results are worth celebrating.

"These results reflect the work happening in classrooms across Transylvania County Schools — teachers collaborating, principals leading, parents partnering, instructional teams supporting, and students continuing to grow," said Ms. Norris, TCS Chief Academic Officer.

The state letter grades and other metrics point to real improvements across the district. They also highlight the areas where continued, focused work will pay off, through our school improvement planning process and through ongoing intervention and enrichment opportunities.

The Transylvania County Schools comprehensive strategic planning process allows us to set clear priorities, align resources effectively, and ensure that every student continues to receive a high-quality education. We developed the 2025-2030 strategic plan out of our deep commitment to our students, staff, and community. Our goal is to ensure that every child in Transylvania County receives the best education possible, which requires a clear vision for the future. This plan helps us prioritize what truly matters: supporting student success, aiding our teachers, and making informed decisions about our resources. It also serves as a way to hold ourselves accountable, ensuring that we continue to progress.
