*****Public Notice******
Following last night’s windstorm, the City of Brewster Public Works Department will be collecting woody debris from city residents. Please place debris piles at the edge of the roadway where a loader or excavator can safely access them and keep debris out of the travel lane for everyone’s safety. Crews will continue pickup efforts through the weekend and until June 12th.
Residents who prefer to dispose of debris themselves may use the yard debris pile located above Locust Grove Cemetery. This site is for yard and tree debris only. Please do not dump trash or building materials.

**********Pipe Bomb located Arrest made***********

On 05/28/2026 at about 1535 hrs Brewster Officer were dispatched to a suspicious complaint in the area of 4th St and Main Ave in Brewster. The reporting party reported locating something strange under his vehicle back tire. Officers looked at the item and determined it to be a pipe bomb. BPD cleared people from the area and cordoned off a city block. The Spokane County Explosive Disposal Unit was contacted. After the unit reviewed photos of the device it was decided they would respond.

At about 1830 hrs The Explosive Disposal Unit arrived on scene. The Explosives Disposal Unit is a combined team of technicians and command staff from both the Spokane Police Department and Spokane County Sheriff’s Office. Only technicians who have graduated from the Hazardous Devices School at Redstone, Alabama, and are licensed to handle explosives in the state of Washington, handle any explosives, suspected devices, or actual devices. The Explosives Disposal Unit serves the entire inland northwest.

A Robot deployed an x-ray camera to examine the device. It was determined to be a live explosive. The EDU defused the explosive in place, rendering the device inert and making the area safe.

Through investigative means, Officers were able to identify a suspect. The suspect a 40-year-old adult male from Brewster, Washington was arrested and booked into the Okanogan County Jail on the charges of Attempted Murder in the first degree, Malicious placement of an explosive device, and Possession of Illegal explosive device. This was a targeted incident and not random. There is no further risk to the public in reference to this case.

The Brewster Police Department, in collaboration with the Douglas County Sheriff's Office, Okanogan County Sheriff's office, Omak Police Department, and the Washington State Patrol, will be joining forces to conduct emphasis patrols in response to the rising gang activity in the Brewster and Bridgeport area. The first emphasis patrol is scheduled to begin the weekend of May 1st. Additional patrols will occur at unannounced times to ensure continued safety and vigilance throughout the community.

Press Release: Shooting Incident in Brewster Four Juvenile Suspects Arrested

On 04/27/2026, at approximately 5:37 p.m., Brewster police officers responded to a shooting in Brewster. Upon arrival, officers located an adult male with a gunshot wound to the back. The victim was rushed by helicopter to a medical facility for treatment and is currently receiving care.

An officer on duty with the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife witnessed the shooting and followed the suspect vehicle. During the pursuit, one person got out of the vehicle and fled on foot. The remaining four occupants were detained and taken to the Brewster Police Department.

The four juvenile occupants of the suspect vehicle were arrested and subsequently booked into the Okanogan County Juvenile Detention Center. Thanks to the swift and coordinated response of all the agencies involved, the suspects were apprehended without further incident.

At this time, there is no ongoing risk to the public related to this event. The Brewster Police Department would like to express its sincere gratitude to the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife, Colville Tribal Police, Douglas County Sheriff's Office, Okanogan County Sheriff's Office, and Washington State Patrol. Their prompt actions and collaboration were instrumental in the safe and effective resolution of this incident.

This is an active, ongoing investigation and more information will follow if and when the investigation permits.

Nota de prensa: Incidente de tiroteo en Brewster Cuatro sospechosos menores arrestados

El 27/04/2026, aproximadamente a las 17:37, agentes de policía de Brewster respondieron a un tiroteo en Brewster. Al llegar, los agentes localizaron a un hombre adulto con una herida de bala en la espalda. La víctima fue trasladada rápidamente en helicóptero a un centro médico para recibir tratamiento y actualmente está recibiendo atención.

Un agente de guardia del Departamento de Pesca y Vida Silvestre de Washington presenció el tiroteo y siguió al vehículo sospechoso. Durante la persecución, una persona salió del vehículo y huyó a pie. Los cuatro ocupantes restantes fueron detenidos y trasladados al Departamento de Policía de Brewster.

Los cuatro menores ocupantes del vehículo sospechoso fueron arrestados y posteriormente ingresados en el Centro de Detención Juvenil del Condado de Okanogan. Gracias a la rápida y coordinada respuesta de todas las agencias implicadas, los sospechosos fueron detenidos sin más incidentes.

The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a missing person case (26D00552). Erik Luna, 18, was last seen by his family in Bridgeport on Friday, February 6, 2026, around 6 pm. He was wearing black clothing and shoes. Anyone with information is encouraged to call the Sheriff’s Office Tip Line at (509) 699-3283.
