From Harwich ACO - "The 2026 blizzard left the majority of folks on Cape with no power, no heat source, some without water and trapped in their homes for days and just not prepared with their pets."

Brewster’s 2026 Top Dog Winner!!

With more than 125 votes cast, the Town Clerk’s office and Brewster Animal Control announce the winner of Brewster’s 2026 Top Dog Contest: London!

London is a 5-year-old English Crown Golden Retriever who lives in Brewster with her parents and her sister. She loves long walks on the beach and doesn’t mind getting her beautiful white fur a little sandy along the way.

As Brewster’s Top Dog of 2026, London received a gift basket generously donated by Agway, the official #1 dog tag, and a certificate recognizing her as this year’s Top Dog. Thank you to Agway of Cape Cod for their generous support, and to everyone who voted and shared their adorable pups with us.

Congratulations London!

Today is the second day of the 2025 Brewster Police Department Police Youth Academy for children. During the Youth Academy the children get a tour of the Police Station and there are programs put on by members of the department where the kids learn what we do.
Today’s program was on Animal Control. I did a power point presentation on what Animal Control does, the types of rescues we do, and on being kind and humane to all animals. Then we took the kids outside to see the Animal Control Vehicle and equipment. My own dog, a Labrador Retriever named Ryder, came to work with me today and I used him to demonstrate pet safety. I showed the kids how to locate a microchip in a dog and explained how microchips work to help lost animals get home. Ryder put on a small obedience and agility demonstration and interacted with the kids. Ryder is also trained in scent work and can locate certain odors. We went back inside and kids hid some tins (with odor in them) around the room. I brought Ryder in to demonstrate how he searches and alerts me when he has located the “hide”. A good time was had by all, especially Ryder!
