The Brewster Fire Department extends our full support and appreciation to our neighboring departments in Canton and Bolivar for their incredible actions Monday night. Canton Firefighter Kyle Gallagher and Bolivar Firefighters Sarah Valentine and Ashley Curtner demonstrated outstanding bravery during the rescue of a driver from a vehicle submerged in the river.
It’s worth noting that the Bolivar crew was returning from a medical transport when they came upon the incident. Even when we’re heading back to the station and not on a dispatched call, our commitment to serve is ever‑present. Their actions are a reminder of the dedication shared across all our departments.
Following the rescue, the Canton Fire Department Water Rescue Team conducted a thorough search for any additional victims. Thankfully, none were found.
Chief Akbar Bennett said it best: “Never let the extraordinary be treated as ordinary.”
We stand with our neighboring departments and commend every firefighter involved for their courage, professionalism, and unwavering service to our communities.
