A Reminder That Open Burning Season Ends May 1

Friday, May 1 will be the last day for open burning during the 2026 calendar year. The Commonwealth of Massachusetts allows residents to obtain a permit from their local Fire Department for the purpose of conducting open burning between January 15 and May 1 of each year. The Brewster Fire Department is unable to issue permits for open burning outside of these dates.

Permits will continue to be available at the Brewster Fire Department (M-F, 8:30am-4:00pm) and online at https://brewsterma.portal.opengov.com/ through 12PM Friday, May 1.

Please direct any questions to the Brewster Fire Department at 508-896-7018.

Burn Safely, Burn Responsibly!

As the Brewster Fire Department continues to respond during this blizzard, we are urging residents to please stay home and off the roads unless absolutely necessary. Whiteout conditions, icy roadways, and heavy snow are making travel extremely dangerous for both the public and first responders.

If you encounter any downed power lines, do not approach them. Always assume they are live. Please report downed wires directly to your power company.

If a downed line is actively arcing, sparking, or there is a fire, call the Fire Department immediately by dialing 911.

Our crews are staffed and ready, but you can help us most by staying safe, staying home, and allowing emergency vehicles clear access to those who truly need assistance.

Some notes about today's structure fire. This call was placed into HQ by the homeowners who were not at home at the time and noticed smoke filling their garage on their security cameras. While usually, these calls arrive via 911, our firefighters were ready to respond immediately. Due to the rapid realization by the homeowners, and the prompt response by our firefighters, the fire was quickly knocked down with minimal damage to the family's home.

Job well done by all 💪🚒
Thank you to our Mutual Aid companies!
