Please join us in welcoming Megan to Brice Prairie EMS and Rescue! Here she is with her dog Willow. Megan has been an EMT for about 2.5 years, where she worked in the ER and has been an RN for a year. She enjoys spending time with her family, being outside, taking the dogs out and about, and has recently gotten into flower gardening. We recruited Megan when she recently bought her house on the Prairie. Megan has already become an asset and has made a few calls. Thanks Megan, for your dedication to the community.

Chris and Stephanie spent the weekend getting Ice Rescue Instructor recert completed. It was frigid for sure but emergencies don’t care about the weather. Huge thanks to First In Training LLC for another great training.

Meet Colin! Colin joined us late last summer. Even though he is away at school, he has already been a valued member, responding to many calls this summer and while home on Winter break.

Hello! My name is Colin Dittman and I’m an EMT. I grew up on the Prairie, and I’m currently attending UW Stevens Point working toward a degree in Forestry with a certificate in Wildland Firefighting. After school I plan on returning home to pursue a career in the Fire Service. Some of my hobbies and interests include duck hunting, deer hunting, musky fishing, and ice fishing.

We all know that making sure our loved ones know our wishes for life sustaining treatment is very important but if you or your loved one chooses to be a DNR, meaning do not resuscitate if their heart stops, it’s very important that these wishes are clearly documented and accessible for EMS crew upon arrival to your home. This way, First Responders know exactly what your/their wishes are. Without this, CPR will, in most situations, be started immediately upon arrival. In Wisconsin, we have a POLST form that your doctor should have and can sign, stating your wishes. This form should go on your fridge, as this is our first place we look. With a doctors order, you can also get a bracelet that is with you all the time, and will share your wishes when away from home too. We hope you find this info helpful and can use it to guide your conversations with family.

Please welcome Adam, who joined us late summer. Here is a little info about him.

Hello! My name is Adam Schmitt. I grew up in Onalaska, and I’m currently pursuing a Fire Protection degree at Western Technical College, and I am extremely excited for my future in emergency services. In the future, I hope to stay local and continue providing EMS response on Brice Prairie. When i'm not at school or working, you’ll usually find me outdoors - fishing, hunting, or doing anything on the Mississippi River. And if I’m inside, I’m probably baking my famous chocolate chip banana bread.

Each Fall we use our training night to stock the emergency shelters out on the lake. We head out right after hunting closes to give extra experience in the dark. We are trailing a new navigation system, which I failed to take a picture of tonight. While preparing the shelters, we found this note in one of the emergency supply buckets!
