We regret to inform everyone that Pleasure Beach will remain closed to the public for the 2025 summer season. This decision comes after extensive consultation with state environmental experts following the discovery of multiple tick species on the island—including the invasive Asian longhorned tick. In the interest of public health and environmental safety, the City will be conducting a series of treatment and containment efforts throughout the area.

Additionally, the City has observed a significant increase in protected Audubon bird species nesting on the island, further reinforcing the need to reduce human interference and allow conservation efforts to continue uninterrupted.

Please note: The fishing pier at Pleasure Beach will also remain closed during this period.

Given the island’s sensitive ecosystem, managing the risks of cross-contamination requires deliberate, long-term planning. The City will continue to monitor conditions with the goal of reopening Pleasure Beach for public enjoyment in summer 2026, once it is safe to do so.

We thank you for your understanding and cooperation as we prioritize the safety of our residents, visitors, and the natural environment.

A Residence Inn by Marriott is scheduled to commence construction in 2025, according to a news release issued by Bobby Christoph Jr. developer of the mixed-use Steelpointe Harbor which has started work on the first phase of housing including luxury and workforce apartments.

Today, the True North Hotel Group Incorporated and Bridgeport Landing Development announced exciting news: a new hotel with a well-known national brand will be built at Steelpointe Harbor. Bridgeport, Connecticut’s largest city, has been without a hotel since the Bridgeport Holiday Inn closed in January of 2022.

True North Hotel Group Inc. and Bridgeport Landing Development have finalized a deal to bring a Residence Inn by Marriott to Steelpointe. The hotel will feature approximately 135 rooms and be located between East Main Street and Pembroke, bordering Stratford Avenue. Construction on the new hotel will commence in 2025.
