Students belong in classrooms. Immigration status should never determine a student’s future.
On August 10, the federal government filed a lawsuit challenging Connecticut’s policies that provide eligible undocumented students access to in-state tuition and financial aid.

For years, undocumented students, young people, families, and allies across Connecticut have organized, led, and taken collective action to expand access to higher education. C4D has been at the forefront of this fight, and now we’re organizing to protect the progress our communities fought for.

To protect immigrant communities requires more than promises. It requires clear commitments, accountability, and the resources families need to stay together.

When it comes to improving the school system, “it’s not always about more money,” said Gov. Ned Lamont. “Sometimes it’s about doing things that matter.” He offered that message at a campaign Q-and-A with Greater Westville Indivisible on Monday afternoon.

Last week, our team continued our Summer 2026 Power Building Project by building power online and in our communities.

Together with HUSKY 4 IMMIGRANTS members learned about HUSKY Health, why healthcare access matters for immigrant communities, and how we can continue expanding access across Connecticut.

Our members also participated in a Building Power Through Digital Storytelling
training, where they built skills in digital storytelling, social media, and online organizing to help engage our communities. 💛

This week, our New Haven team was joined by HUSKY 4 IMMIGRANTS as part of our Summer 2026 Power Building Project.

Together, our members learned what HUSKY Health is, why access to healthcare matters for immigrant communities, and how we can continue expanding and improving access across Connecticut.

They also learned the fundamentals of community canvassing and how to have meaningful conversations with neighbors about upcoming changes to this lifesaving program.

For many participants, it was their very first time canvassing, and they did an incredible job. 💛

Where you are matters. Your rights can change depending on whether you're in a public or private space. Knowing that difference can help you make informed decisions if you're ever approached by immigration enforcement.

🛑 You have the right to remain silent.
🚪 In many situations, you do not have to let officers into a private space without a judicial warrant; not every warrant gives officers the authority to enter.

We had the opportunity to tour the Western Connecticut State University campus, learn about a variety of academic programs, and connect with representatives from colleges and universities across the country. It was a great opportunity for our members to explore future educational pathways and begin thinking about their next steps.

Our Organizing Director, alongside several of our Summer Fellows and members, also led a workshop on community organizing and the power young people have to build stronger communities through collective action.

Young people should not spend months—or years—in federal custody.

Some children in Connecticut waited up to 505 days to reunite with their families.

Connecticut's elected officials must act. They should work in Washington to speed up family reunification and invest in legal representation so every child has access to an attorney in immigration proceedings.

No young person's freedom should depend on whether they can find legal help. Families belong together.
