You are not alone. We are not alone.

Our mental health matters. It affects how we feel, connect with others, and move through everyday life. For immigrant communities, stigma, barriers to affordable care, and ongoing attacks on our communities can make it harder to get the support we deserve.

Check in with yourself, your friends, your family, and your community. Asking for support is nothing to be ashamed of, and none of us should have to carry everything alone.

C4D Student Leader Dorys Joins National Campaign for Affordable, Safe Campuses

Dorys, a Georgetown University student and student leader with Connecticut Students for a Dream, joined students in Washington, D.C., for the launch of United We Dream’s Powered by Students: The Takeover campaign.

Speaking at American University, Dorys highlighted the barriers immigrant students face, including the financial strain of pursuing higher education. She called for students to organize across campuses and state lines for affordable college, safe and inclusive campuses, and resources that support student success.

“WE, the students, have always been the front lines of change,” Dorys said.

The campaign brings students together to organize for campuses where every student, regardless of race, class, or immigration status, can afford to attend, thrive, and learn without fear.

Connecticut’s protected areas law took effect October 1, thanks to the collective work of community groups, faith leaders, and labor unions.

We’ll be canvassing our community, tabling at schools, and getting information directly to our neighbors so our communities know their rights.

Today in Hartford, we brought together community organizations, faith leaders, labor unions, and elected officials as Connecticut’s protected areas law took effect, a victory won by organizing and building power together.

Even as we mark this victory, we cannot fully celebrate knowing that members of our community woke up today without health care coverage. Families deserve to access schools, health care, and essential services safely.

Thank you to our partners and everyone who stood with us today. Together, we’ll keep organizing to ensure these protections are upheld and every immigrant family can safely access health care, education, and essential services.

That same day, up to 4,000 lawfully present immigrants will lose access to HUSKY health coverage.

As immigration detentions climb across Connecticut, join CT Students for a Dream, HUSKY 4 Immigrants Coalition, Connecticut For All, New Haven Federation of Teachers, SEIU 1199, ACLU Connecticut, and Make the Road Connecticut for a press conference on these new protections, the gaps that remain, and the collective action needed to keep immigrant families safe and ensure access to care.
