*** Burn Ban***

*** We will not lift the current ban on open burning until later this week at the soonest. Much will depend on rainfall, if it materializes. Case in point, the rains last Friday did nothing to alleviate the fire risk, except for a day. If storms forecast for this week produce enough heavy rain, we can return to normal operations. Thank you for your cooperation. ******

The top map is the fire risk analysis for today. The bottom is projected for tomorrow. H=High Risk, V =Very High Risk, E = Extreme Risk. It will take significant rainfall to affect these levels. A quarter inch, for example, may only change this status for a few hours. We will lift the burn permit moratorium when these outlooks change to Low or medium for consecutive days.

A campfire that meets the definition as drawn out in our ordnance is still permitted. These are size-limited, require barriers, and allow only logs to burn. If projections for extreme conditions were to last days, we would be forced to consider a total ban.

***** IMPORTANT NOTICE******

We have suspended burn permits effective immediately 6/3/2026.

No burning of yard waste until further notice. Lack of rain, warmer temps have caused fire danger to be raised to "Very High" in most of the region. Thank you for your cooperation.

****Notice****

Due to overwhelming success in our smoke detector program, we have depleted our current supply and are awaiting more to be delivered. We apologize to the residents who have requested detectors and to those we have yet to reach out to. We have you on a waiting list and will get to everyone once we have more detectors.

This is part of a statewide initiative. Once we have new supplies we will begin scheduling more installations. As of this time, we do not yet have an indication when the new supply will be available. We will post updates as they become available.

This line of storms is heading in our general direction. Weather alert radios or activating the "Wireless Emergency Alerts" or WEA on your phone are the best and fastest alerts. We want to remind everyone Bridgeport DOES NOT have an automatic tornado siren system. Never has. The station siren could be sounded manually if someone is actually there at the time of activation. Only people in the immediate vicinity would even hear it over the noise of the storm. Phone alerts are far superior. Please remain vigilant after 4pm. Another round of storms is expected tomorrow.

Severe Thunderstorm Warning for Clinton, Gratiot, Ingham, Isabella and Jackson County in MI until 4:00pm EDT.
