We have some exciting news for our community! On August 23rd, 2026, the Sunset Heights Vol. Fire Department officially finalized arrangements to bring home a powerful new life-saving tool: a 2026 Can-Am Defender 6x6 Limited Edition! From Addy Polaris LLC

Getting this advanced vehicle to our township took an incredible amount of groundwork and dedication. William Sigon II led the charge with some other members by making multiple phone calls to different dealerships lasted over 6 months long. Thanks to his persistence, we shopped the market thoroughly to lock in the absolute best deal for our department, ensuring our community resources were spent perfectly.

This major fleet upgrade was made possible with the help of a $10,000 Volunteer Fire Assistance grant from the Ohio Department of Natural Resources Division of Forestry . This crucial state program is specifically designed to help rural fire departments secure elite equipment for off-road safety and wildland firefighting.

The new 6x6 is a heavy-duty, six-wheel-drive machine built to handle emergency situations where big fire engines simply cannot fit.Why this matters for Sunset Heights:Trail & Off-Road Rescue: If an outdoor enthusiast or neighbor gets injured deep in the woods or on rugged trails, this vehicle can drive right to them for a quick evacuation.

Wildland Firefighting: It can carry dedicated water tanks, pumps, and wildland gear directly across muddy fields or deep into thick forests to stop brush fires early.

All-Weather Crew Protection: The vehicle features a fully enclosed cab with heat and air conditioning. This protects our volunteer firefighters from heavy smoke, freezing winter storms, or blistering summer heatwaves so they can focus on the mission.

We are incredibly grateful to William A. Sigon II for his hard work, and to ODNR Forestry for investing in our department's safety. Keep an eye out for our new 6x6 around township soon!

The Sunset Heights Vol. Fire Department stands in deep solidarity and mourning with our brothers and sisters at the Brookside Fire Department . As a profound mark of respect for the life, dedication, and ultimate service of Assistant Chief Allan G. Ketzell II, the flag at our station will be flown at half-staff over the coming days. We extend our heartfelt condolences to Assistant Chief Ketzell’s family, friends, and the entire Brookside community during this difficult time. His legacy of selfless service to the Ohio Valley will not be forgotten. Rest in peace, Chief. We have the watch from here.
