Bridgeport is the county seat for Mono County, located in the beautiful eastern sierras. Our department services the town of Bridgeport, The Bridgeport Indian Colony, and the community of Twin lakes. Our response area stretches along Highway 395 from Highway 108 in the north, to the top of Conway summit in the south, as well as Highway 182 from Bridgeport out to the Nevada state line. Our departm

ent is committed to providing the best care and service to our community, and the people who visit our beautiful area. The training's generally run from 7pm to 8pm every Thursday night, however we would recommend you contact us on facebook first to make sure we will be at the station.

Over the the last few months, we’ve had the privilege of learning from one of the best! Pat Cates, one of our summertime residents, has a combined 50+ years of firefighting, engineering, and fire academy teaching experience, and he graciously offered to do some trainings with our engineers. We were able to refine some of our processes and learn techniques that can only come from someone with his level of experience. Thank you Pat for your time and expertise!

Save the date! Our annual co****le tournament at Big Meadow Brewing is scheduled for September 6. Last year’s competition was impressive, so if you’re looking for another chance to win the world’s coolest trophy come join us!

No co****le skills? That’s ok, Rose and Jim will be serving their finest aiming fluid, and we will be providing burgers for the contestants and peanut gallery. The raffle alone will be worth the visit, so make sure you get this one on your calendar.

On that note, one of our community members generously donated a really cool super secret item (hint on the flyer) which we will be raffling off on Sept 6 as well - tickets will be on sale for that one this week. Contact your favorite firefighter, or stop by Ken’s Sporting Goods or the brewery to get your tickets!

We will see you September 6th and will have shirts and hoodies for sale. Thank you to all our local businesses and supporters who have generously donated items for this event! We appreciate you all.

- Fireworks update -

This week’s fire conditions are extremely risky, and Sheriff Braun has issued a prohibition on fireworks and fires in Mono County. What that means for Bridgeport…

We are fortunate in that the location of our professional fireworks display is chosen and prepped specifically to minimize spot fires, so it will still be happening. HOWEVER…. AERIAL FIREWORKS ARE STILL STRICTLY PROHIBITED. If you decide to use your own aerial fireworks, rest assured law enforcement will not be turning a blind eye. Their citations are hefty, but the cost of a fire is far greater. “Safe and sane” fireworks are still allowed in appropriate areas (nowhere near flammable material or brush).

Please leave the real fireworks to the professionals so we can devote our resources and help from our allied agencies to the celebration and not to an incident caused by illegal fireworks or an illegal campfire.

On a happier note, we cannot wait to celebrate our great country’s 250th birthday with you all! We are geared up for a fun weekend and will have shirts and other stuff for sale at the station, and you’ll get to see our new engine in the parade.

🚒 Introducing the newest member of our fleet! No this isn’t April Fools - Bridgeport Fire Department is slowly but surely joining the 21st century. This state of the art Fouts FC-94 Type 1 engine was generously funded by FEMA and DHS through the Assistance to Firefighters grant, which recognizes the need for modern equipment even in the smallest towns. This engine is unparalleled in terms of capability and function, yet simplifies many of the aspects of engineering that otherwise add time to “getting the wet stuff on the red stuff.” For the fellow fire nerds out there, it’s equipped with a fully automatic Pump Boss Max pressure governor 😎 for the non-fire nerds, this allows the engine to automatically regulate the water pressure coming out of the lines so no one is taken for a ride on the end of a hose if there is a spike in pressure. It also seats 6 people with room to spare, holds 1000 gallons of water, and has automatic chains for winter - big thanks to for outfitting it with everything we need to make it a fully functional Bridgeport engine and teaching us how to operate it all.

We are humbled by the generosity of FEMA and DHS for providing the Assistance to Firefighters grant and very thankful for the hard work our chief and commissioners put in to make it happen. We will still be hanging onto Engine 2 as a backup, but Engine 5 will now be our primary structure protection apparatus. It’ll be on display during our open house this coming Sunday!

No matter your choice of vehicle/vessel, don’t let it take control of its own destiny. It will probably make bad decisions! Friday night, this truck suffered a mechanical malfunction and found itself upside down on a rough, narrow dirt road, missing a full tumble off the steep embankment by only a few inches. Yesterday, this boat fancied itself a whitewater raft and tried to take its occupants on a ride out of the lake.

Fortunately both these incidents were non-injury, but they are good reminders to be fully aware of your surroundings, your terrain (or water current) and your vehicle’s condition and capabilities. Otherwise, you may find yourself saddled with one heck of a recovery conundrum (big thanks to for solving one of them).

On another note, don’t forget to stop by our open house next Sunday, May 31! We will have food, activities, shirts, and some exciting new equipment to demo.

Last night we did a joint training with and which combined a structure fire scenario with patient care/helicopter loading. Our firefighters responded to a “structure fire” with a burn patient, our trusty training dummy Dan. Dan was eventually swapped out for one of our engineers who got to go on a quick sunset flight over Bridgeport.

Thank you as always to for flying down to help make our training 100x more realistic (and exciting)! We see these guys on a regular basis as one of our primary air resources for incidents, but we must be helicopter nerds because watching them fly never gets old.

Our new eye in the sky - Bridgeport Fire just started a drone program, thanks to the California Fire Foundation who generously funded this awesome Autel Robotics Enterprise Thermal Imaging drone.

It can fly up to 7 miles and has a 40 minute flight time. We will use it for wildland fire aerial surveillance, safety/situational awareness, and searches. Its thermal capabilities make it unbeatable for hotspot and thermal detection. We’ve also promoted three firefighters to “pilots,” and they’ll spend this summer training on drone operation.

Thank you again to the California Fire Foundation for supporting our department and safety in what is likely to be an active fire season.
