Today, the Connecticut–Puerto Rico Trade Commission convened its inaugural meeting at the State Capitol.

From the outset, the focus is clear: move from intent to ex*****on, and from dialogue to measurable outcomes that strengthen both Connecticut and Puerto Rico.

To guide this work with discipline and clarity, the Commission formally established five core pillars:

📊 Economic Growth & Capital Investment
⚡ Energy & Sustainable Infrastructure
📚 Education & Workforce Development
🩺 Housing & Health Systems
✈️ Tourism, Culture & Media Strategy

These pillars will serve as the operational framework for coordinated action, intergovernmental collaboration, and targeted initiatives designed to deliver tangible results.

The work begins now, with a shared commitment to urgency, accountability, and long-term impact.

“This is a spectacular win for the East Side and the entire Greater Bridgeport community. For 50 years, Optimus has been a trusted, irreplaceable provider of care for our families. This $2.43 million investment supercharges their ability to do what they do best: deliver high-quality, culturally sensitive medicine. Upgrading the East Main Street facility means shorter wait times, state-of-the-art clinical spaces, and expanded access to crucial pediatric and women’s health services for patients across Bridgeport and Stratford. This is smart, direct public funding that strengthens our community's health infrastructure for the next generation.” - Rep. Chris Rosario

🎉 Exciting news!

The State Bond Commission has approved $2.43 million for renovations at Optimus Health Care's East Main Street location in Bridgeport.

This investment will expand access to OB/GYN, pediatric, and dental services, helping us serve even more patients and families throughout Bridgeport, Stratford, and the surrounding communities.

As we celebrate 50 years of service, we are grateful to Sen. Herron Gaston, Rep. Kaitlyn Shake, Rep. Chris Rosario, and Rep. Joseph Gresko for their support of this important investment in community health.

Javier Anibal Melgar and his son were waiting in their car for the school bus on Park Avenue. State Rep. Chris Rosario described the incident as traumatizing for the 16-year-old and the other kids on the school bus.

While ICE reports that protocols were followed to ensure the safety of the minor, state officials are advocating for the Bridgeport resident and calling for him to receive due process.

I want to thank Governor Ned Lamont for his continued commitment to the Re*****on Arms redevelopment and for this $2 million bonding commitment to stabilize and repurpose the historic Re*****on Arms Shot Tower, an iconic landmark not only for Bridgeport, but for the entire State of Connecticut.

This investment builds on prior state support that helped advance demolition work, site stabilization, and early redevelopment preparation at the former Re*****on Arms property, including significant bonding assistance that enabled the City of Bridgeport to move forward with clearing long-blighted structures and securing the Shot Tower for future adaptive reuse.

As the City now actively seeks development proposals for the site, the Governor’s continued partnership is helping position this East Side corridor for its next chapter. This latest commitment strengthens the foundation for responsible redevelopment, job creation, and long-term economic growth.

What was once a symbol of industrial decline is increasingly becoming a symbol of opportunity and reinvestment. The preservation of the Shot Tower and continued investment in the site reflect a shared vision for honoring our history while building a stronger economic future for Bridgeport and the East Side community.

The Bond Commission is expected to approve the project, in addition to other items beneficial to Bridgeport, at its May 29th meeting.
