Commissioner Director Sandra Taylor, Deputy Director Art Marchand, County Clerk Celeste M. Riley, and Sheriff Michael Donato joined the community at Hopewell Day 2026 in Bridgeton.

The celebration brought neighbors together for an afternoon of bounce houses, live band performances, face painting, and local vendor and craft booths, with food vendors and activities for all ages keeping families entertained throughout the day. It was a great opportunity for residents to connect with neighbors, support local businesses, and enjoy everything that makes Hopewell such a close knit community.

Cumberland County celebrated its 250th family farm preserved through the Farmland Preservation Program today. Coinciding with the 250th anniversary of our nation's independence, Commissioner Director Sandra Taylor was joined by Commissioner Deputy Director Arthur Marchand and Commissioner John Capizola along with County Agriculture Development Board Chair Alfred Caggiano, Jr. and staff of the Department of Planning, Tourism & Community Affairs at the Barber Farm in Upper Deerfield and Deerfield Townships. George Barber, who followed his parents' desires that the farm remain a farm, stood with the crowd at the newly installed sign marking the latest farm in the county to be permanently preserved.

Quickly approaching 25,000 acres of preserved farmland, Cumberland County ranks as one of the most active in the state in preserving its important agricultural heritage. Director Taylor noted the stalwart support of the Commissioner Board to protect the county's agricultural industry, "Agriculture and farming not only comprise an important place in our county's history and heritage, but remain today as a critical component of our county's economy. The Farmland Preservation Program not only provides strong financial support for active farms, but ensures that these drivers of our local economy remain in the hands of the hard-working men and women who dedicate their lives to feeding all of us and providing beautiful trees, flowers and plants for us to enjoy."

Cumberland County came together this Friday to honor and remember the victims of September 11th at ceremonies held across the county.

At Cumberland Regional High School, Sheriff Michael Donato and Undersheriffs Michael Speranza and Thomas Speranza were joined by Deputy Director Art Marchand and Commissioner James Sauro to pay tribute to those we lost. In Millville, Commissioner Director Sandra Taylor and Deputy Director Art Marchand, Commissioners James Sauro, Yolanda Garcia Balicki and Robert Austino joined Millville Mayor Dixon for a solemn remembrance. In Vineland, Commissioner Director Sandra Taylor, Commissioners James Sauro, Yolanda Garcia Balicki and Robert Austino joined Senator Michael Testa and Vineland Mayor Anthony Fanucci for a ceremony honoring the victims and first responders of September 11th.

Each ceremony offered residents a moment to reflect, honor first responders, and reaffirm a shared commitment to never forget. From students to veterans to public safety officers, the community gathered as one to remember a day that changed the nation forever.

Commissioner Director Sandra Taylor, Surrogate Rudolph "Skip" Luisi, and Director of Aging Lisa Williams were among the honorees recognized at Manna From Heaven's Helping Hands Celebration, celebrating citizens making a difference in our community. Deputy Director Art Marchand, Commissioners James Sauro, Robert Austino, John Capizola Jr., and Yolanda Garcia Balicki, County Clerk Celeste M. Riley, Sheriff Michael Donato, Senator Michael Testa, and Assemblymen Antwan McClellan and Erik Simonsen also joined in support of the honorees.

The event brought together residents, community leaders, and honorees for an afternoon centered on service and gratitude. Guests celebrated everyday acts of kindness that often go unnoticed, from neighbors helping neighbors to volunteers quietly showing up for their community year after year. It was a fitting tribute to those whose work strengthens Cumberland County every day.

Commissioner Director Sandra Taylor, Commissioners James Sauro, Yolanda Garcia Balicki, and Robert Austino, County Clerk Celeste M. Riley, Sheriff Michael Donato, Senator Michael Testa Jr., and County Administrator Kevin Smaniotto attended 9/11 Ceremony at the Cumberland County Fire Training Academy, marking 25 years since the attacks of September 11, 2001.

The ceremony honored the lives lost and the first responders who answered the call that day. Moments of silence marked each moment of the attacks, from the strikes on the World Trade Center to the Pentagon and Shanksville. Bagpipes and the National Anthem carried through the ceremony, and Deputy County Administrator Luz Vasquez performed God Bless America. Guest speakers reflected on the impact of that day and the unity it inspired, and a keynote address and benediction closed the program.

Twenty five years later, Cumberland County continues to honor the victims, the survivors, and the first responders whose sacrifice on September 11 is never forgotten.

Commissioner Yolanda Garcia Balicki, Past President of the Cumberland County Bar Association, delivered the invocation at the Opening Day of the Courts and Memorial Service, held at the Cumberland County Courthouse in Bridgeton. Sheriff Michael Donato was also in attendance at this event where the Cumberland County Sheriff's Office was recognized for its support of courthouse security and the fair administration of justice. Presided over by Hon. Benjamin C. Telsey, A.J.S.C., the ceremony marked the start of the new court year for the Cumberland/Gloucester/Salem Vicinage of the New Jersey Judiciary, bringing together judges, attorneys, court staff, and local bar association members, and included a memorial tribute honoring members of the legal community who passed during the past year.

Commissioner Yolanda Garcia Balicki also represented the county at the kickoff of Spirit of Millville Month, hosted by the Greater Millville Chamber of Commerce, which brought together a reunion of past Spirit of Millville Award recipients honoring individuals who have shaped the Holly City over the past 42 years. Cumberland County Improvement Authority President and CEO Jerry Velazquez served as keynote speaker, joined by Millville Mayor Dan Dixon, as the two shared updates on development projects and a vision for revitalizing the downtown area.
