WILDFIRE UPDATE: Mines Spung Wildfire - Wharton State Forest - Shamong Twp, Burlington County

The New Jersey Forest Fire Service is making progress containing a wildfire burning in the area of the Carranza Memorial in the Wharton State Forest, Shamong Twp., Burlington County.

⚠️ Local forest road closures
⚠️ Tuckerton Rd closed from Carranza Rd. to Washington Turnpike
⚠️ Carranza Rd from Forked Neck Rd to Tuckerton Rd.
⚠️ Bulldozer Rd closed
⚠️ Hampton Rd closed

TRAIL CLOSURES
🚷 The Batona Trail is closed between Carranza Rd and Quaker Bridge Rd.

Helpful Wildfire Terminology
🔥 Wildfire - An uncontrolled fire burning the different types of vegetation that cover the land. A wildfire is considered a “major wildfire” after it exceeds 100 acres in size.
🔥 Containment - When reporting on a wildfire a percentage of containment will be given, which will state how much of the fireline has been completed.
🔥 Backfire - A fire intentionally set along the interior edge of a fireline by Forest Fire Service staff to consume fuel in the path of a wildfire and/or to change the direction of force of a fire’s convection column.
🔥 Fireline - The part of a containment or control line that is scraped or dug to mineral soil.
🔥 Threatened - Critical infrastructure, roads, homes and commercial buildings that are in the vicinity of a wildfire.

The Forest Fire Service is in unified command with Pennsville Township as this fire is not in the Forest Fire Service’s primary service area.

Earlier today, members of the Fairton Fire Company participated in the Fun Day events at the Fairton Christian Academy. Members instructed the students on the importance of working smoke detectors, evacuation routes, and all of the hard work our dedicated volunteers perform on a daily basis! Firefighters interacted with the students and showcased the fire apparatus and the different tools used for emergencies!

246 people went to sleep in preparation for their morning flights.

2,606 people went to sleep in preparation for work in the morning tomorrow.

343 firefighters went to sleep in preparation for their morning shift.

60 police officers went to sleep in preparation for morning patrol.

8 paramedics went to sleep in preparation for the morning shift of saving lives.
...None of them saw past 10:00am Sept 11, 2001.....

In one single moment life may never be the same. As you live and enjoy the breaths you take today and tonight before you go to sleep in preparation for your life tomorrow, kiss the ones you love, snuggle a little tighter, and never take one second of your life for granted. God bless💙❤️🇺🇸

Wayne your presence will truly be missed by all. It won't be the same not not seeing you behind the wheel or at the pump panel. Rest easy, we'll take it from here. Keeping his family & Gouldtown Fire family in our thoughts and prayers.
