This was another eventful week - a full week!

The speaker for the weekly meeting was Valerie Nasser. She is the District Military Liaison Counselor for Craven County Schools and represents families based at Marine Corps Air Station Cherry Point. She has partnered with community organizations to pilot a Military Friendly Schools certification program. The Golf Tournament was a stunning success! President Linda presented the scholarship check to Charles Wetherington from Craven Community College for Latasha Seymour working towards her Neo-Natal Nurse Practitioner License.

It was announced that Former First Lady Laura Bush will be the highlight speaker at the Rotary International Conference in Toronto.

All are welcomed at anytime to attend a meeting and learn how you can participate in this small mighty club! We meet at 0730 am on Wednesdays mornings at Bridgeton United Methodist Church. Hope to see you soon!

Wow last week was a very eventful week! Paige Lucas gave a wonderful presentation on Rise Against Hunger - an international hunger relief non-profit organization that coordinates the packaging and distribution of food and other life-changing aid to people in developing nations. Secretary/President-Elect Joe Hofmann, President Linda Chagnon, and Rotarian Pat Williams participated in Bridgeton Elementary School Field day handing out popcorn. President Linda Chagnon and Treasurer Chip Chagnon attended a Scholarship Dinner at West Craven High School and on behalf of the club presented a $500 scholarship to Armoando Gonzales III. He plans on pursuing an engineering degree first at Craven Community College while finishing at NC State. The club also reviewed the results of the Golf Tournament at Harbor Pointe on 12 May. Today, 9 May 2018 Neuse Sunrise presented the Student-of-the-Month and Student-of-the-Year awards at Bridgeton Elementary School. Each month the club presents a certificate to a student for good citizenship, completing all their homework, and good behavior. At the end of the school year, each student that won Student-of-the-Month is eligible to win Student-of-the-Year. Congratulations to these outstanding students! We can expect good things from them in the future!!!

Salvation Army recognized Neuse Sunrise for the support given in December 2017. Rotarians President Linda Chagnon, Treasurer Chip Chagnon, and their daughter Chrissy Chagnon rang the bell every weekend on behalf of the club. They were invited to a dinner at the Flame and present this certificate of appreciation for all their efforts! Small club with a LARGE heart!

Today was the 3rd and last day of a wonderful District 7720 Conference at the New Bern River Front Conference Center. Congratulations Governor Stan Keeler - well done. Also our club received several recognition as well and donated a basket to the silent auction to raise money for RISE AGAINST HUNGER and supplied #10 cans to be donated as well! Congratulations Joe Hofmann - he received a meritorious award for 9 years of service at RYLA (Rotary Youth Leadership Award) as the security officer. Neuse Sunrise received a Certificate of Achievement for completing the Public Image Citation as well. The club had 6 members in attendance: President Linda Chagnon, Treasurer Chip Chagnon, Sergeant at Arms Janet Doughty, Member at Large Gloria Hughes, International Service Lead David Hale, and Secretary Joe Hofmann. Fun was had by all!

Well you missed another great meeting on 2 May! The meeting was well attended. There was discussion on the District Conference that is this weekend in New Bern at the River Front Convention Center. President Linda Chagnon showed the poster boards the club will have displayed in the House of Friendship. President Linda Chagnon and Treasurer Chip Chagnon will be the Sergeant of Arms on Friday afternoon. President Linda Chagnon is in charge of the Bear's Den on Friday and Saturday night for the District Conference. If you've never been to one, this is a great opportunity to attend a conference. The club also discussed the upcoming Golf Tournament to be held on 12 May at Fairfield Harbour Golf Club. The Tournament is a fund raiser to raise money for a scholarship for a woman returning to the workforce that requires training at Craven Community College. The scholarship will be presented to the College during the lunch and there will be many prizes - so if you are golfer here is a fun way to help a woman, get to know the club, and have a great time on the 12th - hope to see you there!

On 25 April, Gwen Bryant spoke to the Neuse Sunrise (Bridgeton) Rotary Club. As a retiring Craven County Clerk for over 25 years, the club presented her a Paul Harris Fellow for her dedicated service over the years. You missed a great meeting - hope to see you there next week! "Eagle Scout is the highest achievement or rank attainable in the Boy Scouting program of the Boy Scouts of America (BSA). The designation "Eagle Scout" was founded over one hundred years ago. Only four percent of Boy Scouts are granted this rank after a lengthy review process.[2] The requirements necessary to achieve this rank take years to fulfill. Since its founding, the Eagle Scout rank has been earned by almost 2.5 million young men."

Our club is pleased to have active Boy Scout LEADERS are part of our club. One of the young men people in our club are supporting is doing a fund raiser for his Eagle Scout Project this Friday. This is a very worth while cause and we are pleased to announce it. Please share this with as many as possible so this young man, future leader, can have a successful project and make a positive impact in his community with this project!

Sorry about this - the post for the 27 September and 4 October Program had two handouts - FB will only allow certain file formats to be posted and then if one of them is a video (only way to post a powerpoint) that is all you can post - so these two posts are really one post - sorry about that!
