I recently had the opportunity to attend the Property Records Industry Association (PRIA) Conference, where county recorders, government officials, attorneys, title professionals, and industry experts from across the country came together to discuss the future of property records.

Here in Cumberland County, our Clerk’s Office already offers FraudSleuth, a free property-record monitoring service that allows residents to receive alerts when documents are recorded using their name or property information. While this is an important tool, we are continuing to look at additional safeguards and measures we can implement to help prevent and detect fraudulent property transactions.

We also learned more about the work being done on uniform laws, including the proposed Real Property Title Fraud Prevention and Remediation Act, and how states across the country are approaching these increasingly important issues.

Conferences like PRIA give us the opportunity to learn what is working elsewhere, share ideas, and bring that knowledge home to Cumberland County.

As County Clerk, protecting the integrity of our land records is one of my most important responsibilities. Technology may change how we record and access documents, but maintaining accurate, secure, and trustworthy public records remains at the heart of what we do.

Always learning. Always looking for ways to improve the services we provide to Cumberland County residents.

Thank you to everyone who made today’s Veterans Award Ceremony such a meaningful event. A special thank you to Steve Cervini hosting and Roy Oliver for a wonderful keynote address, and to Congressman Van Drew and Senator Testa for taking the time to honor our veterans and recognize their service and sacrifice.

To all the veterans who were honored today, thank you for your service to our country. Cumberland County is proud to celebrate you.

VOTE-BY-MAIL REMINDER FOR THE NOVEMBER GENERAL ELECTION

If you are NOT currently a Vote-by-Mail voter, you do NOT need to opt out.

IMPORTANT UPDATE FOR VOTE BY MAIL VOTERS

In light of the recent U.S. Supreme Court decision involving Vote by Mail, we know some Cumberland County voters may be wondering what this means for the November 3, 2026 General Election.

It is important to understand what the Supreme Court did, and did not, decide.

The Supreme Court did not rule that Vote by Mail is ending, nor did it make a final determination that the President’s proposed mail-voting restrictions are constitutional.

The Court lifted one lower-court injunction largely on procedural grounds, finding that the states challenging the federal action had not shown the necessary injury at this stage of the case. The underlying legal questions have not been finally decided, and additional litigation remains ongoing.

There is also a separate court order currently blocking implementation of key changes involving the U.S. Postal Service.

So what does this mean for Cumberland County voters?

As far as the Cumberland County Clerk’s Office is concerned, we are proceeding as normal with Vote by Mail for the 2026 General Election under New Jersey law.

If you are already signed up to receive a Vote by Mail ballot and want to continue voting by mail, you do not need to do anything.

If you are concerned about the uncertainty and would rather vote in person, you may opt out of receiving a Vote by Mail ballot by September 19, 2026.

For now, Cumberland County voters should continue to plan on having three ways to vote:

Vote by Mail
Early Voting
Election Day Voting

We will continue to closely follow the court proceedings and any official guidance from the State of New Jersey. If anything changes that affects Cumberland County voters, we will let you know.
