Country Hills Volunteer Fire Company Country Hills Volunteer Fire Company is a 100% volunteer fire company proudly serving the Bridgewater and Branchburg communities. Frank Colailo.

Committed to protecting lives and property through emergency response, training, fire prevention, and community service. On November 5, 1953 the residents of Charlotte Drive, Edgewood Terrace and Branchburg Park held a meeting for the purpose of organizing a volunteer fire company. At the group's second meeting on November 12, 1953, the name selected for the fire company was the Milltowne Voluntee

r Fire Company. At the third organizational meeting on December 3, 1953, the company was officially changed to Country Hills Volunteer Fire Company. At the December 17, 1953 meeting the officers for 1954 were elected including the company's first chief. The Certificate of Incorporation was recorded by Arthur Tuttle on January 5, 1954 at 9:13 am. In January of 1954, the company purchased a1931 American La France 750 GPM Pumper, with a 400 gallon tank, from Union Hook and Ladder Company of Far Hills for $950. This truck was put into service on April 1, 1954. In April 1954, the company responded to the first call with 27 men. This was a field fire where Fisher Scientific now stands on US Highway 202. By the summer of 1954, the company had erected a temporary fire house on land owned by Leon Concord on US Highway 202 (Charlotte Drive) On February 17, 1956, Frederick Meyer donated a 200 foot by 200 foot parcel for land located at the intersection of Milltown Rd. and Frelinghuysen Ave. (presently where station 1 stands).

It has been quite a busy week for the members of Country Hills Fire along with our mutual aid partners…

Monday, 8/17/2026 @ 3:57PM
Country Hills, North Branch, Readington Fire, and the Branchburg Rescue Squad were dispatched to Old York Road near South Branch Road in Branchburg for a reported fire. This was determined to be a lawnmower on fire in the back yard. While units were responding, Branchburg Police provided an update advising that the fire was knocked down. Chief 24 arrived and confirmed the report, while Squad 24, Engine 49-3, and Squad 32 arrived. Crews overhauled and mitigated a small fuel spill.

Monday, 8/17/2026 @ 7:29PM
Country Hills Fire and the Branchburg Rescue Squad were dispatched to the 1700blk of Breckenridge Drive in Branchburg Township for a reported oven fire. Branchburg Police arrived and advised that the fire was extinguished by the homeowner and there was a heavy smoke condition inside. Chief 24 arrived and established command, while crews from Squad 24 & Engine 24 checked for further extension and ventilated the unit.

21 Fire and Bridgewater Fire District 3 units were sent out to a residence on Oak Street for a reported stove fire with possible extension. While units were responding, the incident was upgraded to a working structure fire. Initial arriving Chiefs from Country Hills and Green Knoll had smoke showing from a 2sty single family residential. Engine 21-2 arrived first due and stretched an attack line, while Squad 24, Engine 24, and additional mutual aid companies assisted with establishing a water supply, fire extinguishment, searches, ventilation, and overhaul. Chief 24 had command of the incident. Units operated on scene for approximately 3 hours.

After clearing a residential fire alarm in the Bradley Gardens section of Bridgewater, North Branch and Country Hills Fire were dispatched to Route 22 by the Regency Trailer Park for a struck gas line. Engine 24 arrived and Deputy Chief 24 established command. Crews stood by while PSEG technicians worked to safety secure the leak. Crews cleared the scene at approximately 1:15pm.

On Thursday, August 20th, 21 Fire and Bridgewater District 3 companies were alerted to a reported stove fire in the Bradley Gardens Section of town. While units were responding, Somerset County Communications updated the call to a structure fire, and Deputy Chief 21 subsequently struck the first alarm on Box 2101A. Deputy Chief 34 and Chief 24 arrived and confirmed a working structure fire.

Engine 21-2 arrived shortly after and stretched a 1.75” crosslay to the front door of the residence. Due to conditions, forcible entry was required. Engine 21-2 Operator and Squad 24 Operator then hand-jacked a 5” supply line to the nearest hydrant, and a backup line was stretched to the B side door. A second alarm was requested, and arriving units assisted with ventilation, hose advancement, searches of the building, and rapid intervention operations.

Our thoughts are with the residents as they recover from this incident.

From handling activated fire alarms and structure fires to motor vehicle accidents and water rescues, our members train and respond to incidents around the clock.

REQUIREMENTS:

* At least 16 years old
* Willing to dedicate time to the department and community
* Live or work within the Bridgewater or Branchburg area

Take a few minutes to make sure your home is protected. Install smoke alarms on every level and inside sleeping areas, test them monthly, replace batteries twice a year, and replace alarms every 10 years.

A working smoke alarm provides the early warning you need to get out safely.
