Today, Bridgewater Township Public Works congratulates Assistant Superintendent Tyson Murdock on his retirement after 32 years of dedicated service.

Tyson began his career with Bridgewater Township in 1992 as a Laborer, following several summer seasons as a seasonal employee. Over the years, he worked in several departments and steadily advanced through the organization, becoming a Supervisor in 2007 and Assistant Superintendent of Public Works in 2024.
Throughout his career, Tyson was dedicated to serving Bridgewater residents. He worked closely with the public, investigated concerns throughout the Township, and helped identify and address problems before they became larger issues. He also assisted in overseeing the Buildings and Grounds, Parks, Roads, Sewer, and Vehicle Maintenance Departments.

Tyson was a constant presence in the field, working alongside and mentoring employees while ensuring that the high standards of Bridgewater Public Works were maintained. He was also there when needed during storms and snow events, working many overnight hours.

Tyson's knowledge, experience, and dedication to Bridgewater Township will be greatly missed. We thank him for his many years of service and wish him a happy, healthy, and well-deserved retirement!

Mayor Matthew Moench recently had the opportunity to tour Viscofan USA’s Bridgewater manufacturing facility, getting a firsthand look at the people, technology and innovation behind one of our community’s most fascinating local manufacturers.

Viscofan is a global leader in the production and distribution of casings for the food industry and is unique in offering ALL of the major casing technologies: cellulose, collagen, fibrous and plastic. But some of Viscofan’s most impressive work happens right here in Bridgewater.

Viscofan acquired the former Nitta Casings operation on Southside Avenue in 2020, and today the facility employs approximately 134 people, manufacturing American-made collagen casings and other collagen-based products for customers around the world.

And here’s a fact that might surprise you: two out of every three hot dogs consumed in the United States are made using casing manufactured right here in Bridgewater!

The Bridgewater facility’s work goes well beyond the food industry, too, producing collagen-based biomaterials with applications including medical products such as burn dressings.

Mayor Moench extends his thanks to Viscofan USA CEO Guillermo Diez García and the entire Viscofan team for taking the time to provide such an informative behind-the-scenes tour — and, most importantly, for their continued investment in Bridgewater and the jobs they provide to our community.

We are proud to have companies like Viscofan making products in Bridgewater that are used across America and around the world.

Happy National Senior Citizens Day!

Today, we celebrate the generations of Bridgewater seniors who have helped build our community, strengthen our families, and make our Township such a special place to call home.

And what better way to celebrate than with a fiesta! The incredible staff at the Bridgewater Senior Center pulled out all the stops for a festive National Senior Citizens Day celebration filled with great food, music, laughter, and (most importantly) great company.

A special thank you to Senior Center Director Jennifer Osterberg, Judy Cosentino, and the entire Senior Center team for the energy and care they bring to our senior community throughout the year.

To all of Bridgewater’s seniors: thank you for the wisdom, experience, service, and spirit you continue to share with our community. Today is your day — and we were thrilled to celebrate it together!

Happy National Senior Citizens Day, Bridgewater!

This past Saturday, the Somerset Patriots celebrated an important chapter of baseball and American history with their annual tribute to the New York Black Yankees, the historic Negro Leagues team that competed from 1932 to 1948. The Patriots took the field for the fourth year as the New York Black Yankees, wearing specially designed uniforms.

Our own Prince Rodgers Foundation was represented at the celebration, along with Bridgewater’s historic Hobbstown community. And, not be left out, our own Township Deputy Administrator Rob Field and Councilman Michael Kirsh joined the fun.

The Prince Rodgers Foundation works to preserve the legacy of Prince Rodgers and generations of African American history in Bridgewater, including the historic Prince Rodgers Cemetery on Foothill Road. In recent years, the Township, Foundation and Somerset Patriots have worked together to ensure that this important part of Bridgewater’s story continues to be remembered and shared.

Thank you to the Somerset Patriots and the Prince Rodgers Foundation for celebrating the people and stories that are such an important part of our local and national history!
