The Peace & Justice Party Condemns US Strikes on Iran

Early February 28, US and Israeli military forces struck Iranian cities and military installations with the goal of regime change in Iran. This harkens back to US and British imperialism from 1953. The US overthrew the democratically elected prime minister and socialist Mohammed Mossadeq, and installed the oppressive Shah of Iran. Today, the Shah's son, backed by the US, waits for regime change once again.

The Peace & Justice Party condemns these offensive actions. They are not aimed at making anyone safer, either here or abroad. And they do not protect the people of Iran - who will only be collateral damage from these strikes.

This attack serves only elite interests. The maintenance of standing armies, war preparation, and military adventurism enriches war profiteers, but steals resources from society. American workers and the poor do not benefit. Instead, workers and the poor suffer from increased taxes, higher prices from supply chain disruptions, and being cannon fodder in a war they never wanted.

The Peace & Justice Party is anti-military, anti-war, and unequivocally for peace. As a socialist party, we oppose military intervention by capitalist forces.

We call for the prompt and orderly demilitarization of these forces, leading to their abolition. We must bear witness against capitalist war. We call on Vermonters and all peoples to organize against war, and speak in solidarity with the working class in Iran.

Congratulations to all our candidates! And thank you to everyone who voted for our candidates and party!

Though Election Day has come and gone, we will continue to represent the values of our party in this state. During the off year, we have planning, networking, and organizing to do.

This election was a great learning experience for many of us, and it was great to meet and speak to Vermonters about their hopes and dreams and what drives them.

JUNE GOODBAND ANNOUNCES CANDIDACY FOR GOVERNOR

Springfield, Vermont — June Goodband, of Springfield, Vermont, is proud to announce her candidacy for governor for the state of Vermont. As the gubernatorial candidate of the Green Mountain Peace & Justice Party (GMP&J), Goodband’s platform rests on the basic tenet that government must work for all the people and the planet.

A therapist by profession, Goodband feels that her knowledge and experience working with people and understanding how systemic injustices like poverty and discrimination affect people on a personal level make her uniquely qualified to serve as a catalyst for positive change as governor of the Green Mountain State.

“I am running because we need a voice for working people, the poor, the disenfranchised, the marginalized, and the people who are under attack in the U.S. today.” Putting human needs first is key, as is listening to, respecting, and empowering people. “We can put human needs before corporate greed,” Goodband says. “We can invest in people and communities and stop investing in things that don’t work,” such as paying millions of dollars to insurance companies
that prevent us from achieving decent health care or allowing paid lobbyists to control our policies and laws. As Goodband points out, “It doesn’t have to be this way. We can change it.”

Goodband’s platform addresses a wide range of issues, including health care, housing, child care, our climate crisis, education, corporate control, and much more, all from the standpoint that we don’t have to accept the status quo and people working together can find solutions and can change the current system that puts corporate greed ahead of human needs. Monied interests should not control government. And in that spirit, Goodband will not be raising money. “I’m not raising money and I’m not spending much, because I don’t have much and I
don’t believe money should elect candidates.”
