This morning, EMS Division Chief Steve Powell, was given a Certificate of Commendation from the Veterans of Foreign Wars, "in special recognition of exemplary service to humanity by administering emergency medical assistance". Retired Marine Corps veteran, Commander of VFW Post 8644, and retired RCFR Captain Ike Diehl presented the award to Chief Powell during staff meeting. Chief Powell joined our Department in 1999 and has served in a variety of roles since coming into Administration including EMS Training Officer, Honor Guard Coordinator, Peer Support program director, and since 2019 EMS Division Chief. In his current role he is responsible for overseeing the emergency medical services provided by both career and volunteer personnel, coordinating and ensuring compliance of EMS services with local, state and federal entities, and overseeing our pharmacy program. Congratulations, Chief Powell!

Our VFW is a great source of information for the curious. Have questions about military service? Ask us! Thanks Scott Drugo for being part of the Bridgewater VFW and for putting yourself "out there" both to serve our nation and for this interview.

While opportunities to serve around the world remain defining moments in his career, Drugo said, he was most drawn to the National Guard because of the work he could do in the Virginia community as well.
